So, we need to talk about gifs.

Im wanting to prevent their embed. They're overdone and they needlessly eat data.

So, a poll. Make the decision easier for me...

The vast majority of gifs are pointless and do nothing to encourage discussion, which is surely the point of this board.

In fact they are pretty much either really unfunny and completly off topic, and almost done with a sense of arrogance (im too good to discuss the issue with you so here's an insulting gif).

They often break forum rules by containing abuse or derogatory remarks towards another poster (you're a c word/are you on glue), these are no better than the kind of written abuse which happens on other forums that this place supposedly doesn't encourage.

A small few are fine, those which are on topic or relevant.

So yeah, i hate most gifs posted on here lol.

I disagree, quite strongly, I mean I could write a long winded reply which would portray my POV or I can just do this :

The 2nd option means that nobody has to read me try and butcher the English language and also puts my point across quite well IMO.

I get the data eating aspect, but theres simply no other reason for their removal.

Thankfully sense will prevail and they will remain, based on the results of the poll, which for the record is massively biased and probably breaks rules in Geneva or something.

Lets not turn the forum into Germany 1938.

I have no idea about the data usage thing. But by and large, they are funny. See Goats there for example, and the one of me and @micknick travelling to Spurs game was superb.

Just allow forum supporters to embed them i.e. the people who contribute towards the site financially.

If everyone wants to post gifs then they have to upgrade thus increasing your funding and giving a legitimate reason for keeping them on the site.
