Not a fan of Sheeran but it's pretty much nonsense.

An investment company buying up partial song rights and then chancing their arm with a spurious but hopefully profitable court cases. There's very few songs ever made where you can't find an earlier example of very similar chord progressions or similar. Plenty of great bands from the 60s got ahead by ripping off blues riffs and plenty of great soul singers did the same by 'taking inspiration' from lesser known tracks.

Can be utterly ridiculous in some cases and in this particular case it ruined Greg Ham tragically.
