She and her brother actually write and produce the music... it feels a lot more authentic than Lana Del Rey who was singing other people's songs and had her entire image manufactured. I like Lana Del Reys first album a lot as well, songwriting is outstanding at times, but it's not her songwriting.

Ellish isn't the kind of artist i would ever have predicted becoming as big as she has, her music in theory is not that mainstream or accessible relative to other massive pop stars... it's certainly more interesting than cookie cutter pop imo and I welcome pop artists like her and Lorde who went down some cool minimal route when they first came onto the scene.

good post but disagree. for my taste Lana's music is a different class, plus she does write her own songs....her own lyrics, themes and she plays guitar too. Her image is her own creation. Sure, some songs have co-writers and producers, and she had some marketing to bolster her after Video Games became a hit. So maybe a bit more than the brother/sister bedroom-studio setup of Eilish. But a lot of her Lizzy Grant stuff was really just her voice, her guitar, her tape recorder and her own material.


Billie's music i can appreciate for what it is, certainly preferable to a lot of radio-formula, but Lana's touching the class of PJ Harvey, Goldfrapp & Kate Bush. Eilish is nowhere near that.


Can Billie Eilish's output compete with these?
