TBF, there are loads of Golden Era hip hop acts that would go down well at Glastonbury. No idea if they have ever played there, if they are still together, or if they would even want to, and I’d concede that a couple have lost members (RIP ODB and Phife), but the likes of Public Enemy, Wu Tang Clan and Tribe Called Quest all have serious back catalogues and great live credentials when it comes to festivals. Cypress Hill would be another. Regulars on the US festival circuit, and I reckon Glastonbury would be open to an appearance. 🤔
Those abba holograms seem to be fairly sprightly, why not, could be a laugh...

QOTSA were epic and John Homme is a great front fan and legend of the genre. Just watching their set for the fourth time right now. So I suppose this qualifies for the what are you listening to now thread as well.

Mention too in these dispatches for the War on Drugs. Watched that set a few times and they have it going too. Lots of influences in their sound from Tom Petty and John Mellencamp, Genesis and all the way to a Flock of Seagulls and others.

Just to add some more festival action on the Fylde this week at Lytham. Sunday is rock night with Motley Crue and Def Leppard. If you haven't got a ticket just wander around the promenade. The sea air will be buzzing on Sunday evening.
Watching the war on drugs’ set as we speak…boss!

Cypress Hill wow. They were my go to band back when I was big.

Was a huge fan of the first two albums. Thereafter, they got heavily into rock crossovers, which I guess is the root of their popularity on the US festival circuit. Either way, they have a 30-year back catalogue of hip hop and rock crossover anthems that would keep any crowd amused for a couple of hours.

Only Black Sunday for me, I'd be more than happy with just that

That was generally the consensus on here. Were people saying the same at the festival? What was the crowd like
So for AM everyone was well up for it, seemed like everyone wanted a party. We were in between the two sound desks so a decent way forward and it was packed so couldn't go any further.

The first half hour was quite good, despite opening with a really slow new number they followed it up with some hits.

But as the show went on, the excitement just dipped- he sings the old songs so slow that you can't sing along to them (not illness related - apparently he did it the whole tour). Loads of people started drifting past us to leave the crowd, our quite packed area became very spacious.

Songs I'd have been happy to hear sounded awful, Mardy Bum, Fluorescent Adolescent etc. He sang them slowly and almost sarcastically. His persona is really annoying too

They murdered 505, historically the big moment and nobody was singing along near me because it was some weird new version, that doesnt kick in at all. By the time they played the two big ones at the end (slowly, again), the atmosphere by us was forced and we weren't into it either.

I heard loads of people saying it was amazing and that Alex Turner is a genius/god so I think I must just be stuck in the past. They're two bands playing to two audiences, so it's probably right they choose the new one and let those of us living in the past stay there. I certainly won't be seeing them again

I watched them at The Emirates and he didn't sing slow versions of the old big hits there. He did miss a gig in Ireland after the gigs, and before Glasto, with laryngitis so not sure if that impacted the way he sand the songs at Glasto. Didn't watch it on tv so cant comment on how they played them there.

Wu Tang have played there more than once IIRC.
They're headlining NASS festival this year, just across the road from Pilton at the Bath & West, funnily enough.

They're one of my favourite acts of all time, but I don't think they could headline Pilton.

You never get all of them anyway.
