How aren’t they? Go and look at who’s headlined in the past.

That’s my point 20 years ago a band like the yeah yeah yeahs would have been the headline.

Now it’s just whoever the biggest star available is so we can all sing along.

Makes for a worse festival imo. Should go back to more guitar bands, or newer artists instead of getting people on to sing the hits.
Not necessarily guitar bands but I do agree with your point. Headlining Glastonbury would be better as a moment where up and coming bands/artists have their breakthrough moment to that next level wider audience.

I also agree with this. But there's three headline slots, so there's really no reason why they couldn't always have a balance of relative newcomer / established artist or band / then a legend.

It would be great if a Glastonbury headline gig could launch careers as well as wrap them up.

Suppose there's been Stormzy and Billie Eilish in recent years, but then you have to go way back to find an up and coming artist taking the headline slot - probably AM the first time around.

Why are people so obsessed about the headliners?

If I like an act I will watch them regardless of when they are on. They have made it so that there is an option for everybody. They actually give you other bands to watch at the same time incase you dont like the headliner!

Was thinking exactly the same thing. As long as there's always plenty of choice people can watch what they like. I don't think there's a typical Glastonbury punter anymore so variety is king.

Just now had the chance to see the full Sparks set, I thought it was quite brilliant considering Ron and Russell are 78 and 74 respectively.
I've been to see them 3 times over the years the first time was at the Empire in about 1974.
They're a band who just get better
with age and there has been a recent upsurge in their popularity following a recent rockumentary about their career on Netflix.

Have either had a recent hip replacement? I only ask as if they are suffering mobility issues, their musical merit is forfeit.
