A decisive move this summer when Kean is confirmed would be to sell DCL and have his successor lined up. That's what a club on the up would do. DCL fails at doing what he's there to do: score. Keeping him to run around is like saying you should keep a guard dog without any teeth because they can still bark.

To keep the analogy going: he's like one of those gobby boxers pre-fight talking up how much damage he'll do to his opponent, then get's KO'd in Round 1.

I tend to think we have a tremendous physical specimen, with 4 out of the 5 ingredients you need to make one hell of a player. I don’t think he would be in the picture if he wasn’t capable of adding goals. The brains trust know its just going to take one bit of magic to unlock it, and throwing it away right at this moment would throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

I'll tell you what that missing ingredient is (and you have to be cruel to be kind sometimes): heart.

The lad is not brave or committed enough to get in there where it hurts and put himself about - in and around the penalty spot where there's intensity to win the ball and the GKs and CBs come alive. There is no predator there, no desperation to come out on top regardless of the consequences. All the best (or better strikers even) have that. He doesn't, I'm afraid. He's destined to run channels and and make a nuisance of himself between centre circle and 18 yard box - those areas before defenders are content to jockey before really coming alive when there's real danger.

At least the cull is going quite well. We will see at least another 5-6 gone before the end of next week IMO. Still lots of dead wood to clear out, let’s hope they have new homes to go to.

I love little Bernie, but his digits were quite poor, if he wants to play more, hes gonna have to up those, but hes got magic in his boots, hes the type you would pay to watch. Im hopeful he can improve next season and show his class.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Predator. I still do think it can be earned, and this is a make or break season. They won’t persist with him if he doesn’t start to do the business.
