Dutch Toffee

Not worth a penny
I know Sharpy already started a thread about this one in the World Football Forum, but being Dutch, I wanted my moment of fame.:D

So really looking forward to tonight. Going to watch it on a giant screen in the city centre of Sittard. Will be the biggest party in my life, if (and who doubts that?) the Dutch win that World Cup tonight.

Think it will be an interesting match, with the Dutch out to frustrate Spain's build up play and interupt their passing style. Expect Xavi and Iniesta to get van Bommel's and the Jong's calling cards very early in the match.

As I said before, I never seen a Dutch Squad, that's so high on team spirit, determination, self belief and confidence. Personally think it will be Holland's best match during this tournament and that we'll edge out Spain in the end. Robin van Persie to score the winner.

Viva Oranje! Must admit I'd be pretty devestated if they lost tonight, they deserve this trophy far more than the Spanish do!

Spain: seven goals in seven games; tika taka 'to me, to you' yawn inducing football. There's a media blackout on just how mind numbing this Spanish side are and it revolves around the trumpeting of the 'genius' of players like Xavi and Alonso. They're tidy players, but that's just about it. If they win tonight football as a spectacle is diminished, imo. This supposedly bland Dutch side are, in reality, easily the more dynamic and watchable of the two finalists.

So Xavi is a tidy player and Messi is badly gash?

Really Dave, really?

The Dutch had two tournaments: the group stages when they stumbled through unimpressively, then the KO stage when they began to come out and do something with their possession. The Spanish team are an overhyped band of dullards...not in itself an oddity for a WC finalist (some of the German and Italian teams of the past would give them a run for their money in that respect)...the oddity is that they get the positive press they accumulate. It's fostered by the cultural stereotype that no team from a latin country can fail to have flair. Well, this lot dont have it. For all their possession they dont excite.

I've never said that. In fact, I said he's by far and away the best player in the world today. He's just not sealed the deal as a legend...yet.

I think I said all this last week...and everyone agreed with me eventually after I'd explained myself.

Not even close to a legend, legends destroy World Cups, over and over again.

He has another 3 maybe 4 times to make it happen.

Agreed. Apparently though, for some, WCs are not the measure of greatness...the CL is. If you can humiliate Olympiakos in Athens over 90 minutes you're up there with Maradona, Cruyff and Pele.

spain have been amazing for a long time, granted it's not been spectacular but it's easy on the eye and i'd take it anyday. i don't go with the recent backlash against the way spain play football at all.

having said that we have an everton player in the final so hup holland.
