They always score like this at St. Andrews this century. It's a
very short course as majors go, much less one with a par of 72. Winner generally finishes between 15 and 20 under, if the weather is good. Faldo won at 19 under in 1990. The last time the pros didn't score like that here in good weather, they were hitting balata balls. They still usually won here at around 10 under in an era when you could win majors with a score over par.
Par is an arbitrary and irrelevant number anyway. The course is doing its job. It sifted out some of the best players in the world, as it generally does. It's a good track for a Duel in the Sun showdown. Should be fun.
