How many points would Europe need to win? 8?
Yup. 14.5 is a winning score. US is the holder, and retains the cup if it's knotted at 14 at the end.

Realistically, we (the US) can't be more than two down going into Sunday and expect to have a chance to win. I know the Europeans did it down four at Medinah (as did the Americans at home at Brookline), but reality is that Davis was a complete strategic nitwit when he submitted his singles pairings that year. Donald isn't that, so we need to be within touching distance to have a shot.

That's a big ask, because it probably means halving the alternate shot and a best ball drubbing tomorrow. Those points we left on 18 in the afternoon will be tough to claw back. Down 5 looks a lot different than down 3 going into tomorrow.

There's no way this is over.

No reason why USA can't replicate what Europe did tomorrow.

However a failure to properly prepare and momentum is a very difficult combination to overcome.

I remember winding up my RS mates up when they were 3-0 down in the European Cup Final so I'm taking nothing for granted

It's far from over, but we need a very strong performance tomorrow to put us in a position to lift the cup on Sunday. Zach has trotted out an interesting lineup that can get us back into it in the morning, but can also more or less end this as a contest. He'll need the two returning lineups to step it up several notches.

Donald, of course, did nothing more than reverse the slots on the McIlroy and Rahm pairings, correctly reasoning that Spieth and Thomas would go out first and putting his best side yesterday morning against ours.
