Good European cities w/ clubs to go watch

Bias but FC Köln is a great day.

To be honest any German club is goood. If you fly to Cologne, you’ve got with 2 hours on the train.

Koln - 3 sides, can catch multiple if you’re lucky.
Bayer Leverkusen
Schalke
Borussia Dortmund
Bochum
RW Essen
And less appealing Fortuna Düsseldorf, Borussia Monchengladbach.

Other than that of the big leagues, I’ve always loved a visit to Italy. If you stray off the big clubs like Milan and Inter (worth ticking off the San Siro, great ground), where there are tonnes of tourists you can get some great gems.

I’ve done Empoli (which was a personal favourite), which is Inbetween Pisa & Florence, Piacenza, Modena (amazing experience), Lazio, Milan and I’ve currently got a trip to Lecce booked for May.

If you don’t mind budget of the city Scandinavian ones are always good Copenhagen, Malmo, AIK, Brondby etc are all great, but just expensive when you’re there.

If you’re feeling particularly brave, Red Star a Belgrade is an interesting one, especially on a European night.

Since they’ve brought in the new rule In Europe you can almost plan your away trips for R16, last season I did Thursday Bayer04 Vs. Ferencvaros, then on the Friday I did Köln Vs. Bochum.

Sorry for the essay lol
Duisburg as well. Nice ground.

I’m off to Milan early next year (February), always said I was going to go before they knock down the San Siro but apparently it’s had a stay of execution now. A friend of mine has recently had a prominent job with AC Milan so is arranging tickets for us too which is a bonus.

I'll be trying to get over next year too. As you say it shouldn't be knocked down at least in the short term but you know how temperamental Italians are...

Alright lids

Thinking of going away for a weekend to watch a match, anyone recommend somewhere they went recently ? Been to St.Pauli, Benfica, PSV, Hertha Berlin, so anywhere other than those clubs/cities,

Thanks
I was in Naples in June stayed at the Star Terminus hotel, opposite the station as the name suggests.
Not a major flight hub so I dont know about flights, but there are a dozen or more fast trains a day from Rome Mon to Fri (book before you go, it might be a bit busy on Fri Afternoon)...but hardly any Sat or Sun.

the food and beer in Cologne is amazing as well

Went to Munich a few years ago which was good - both for beer and football. Only downside was 'supporting' a club wearing red.

Done a few games for 3. Liga side Unterhaching, in Munich.

They’ve never failed to deliver. Dirt cheap beer and complimentary Weißwurst.

Been the Allianz, wasn’t that impressed.

Great Q.

I'd recommend Marseille, Union Berlin, Fenerbahce for atmosphere. And Sporting if you're incorporating a lil holiday.

I’m currently on holiday in Holland and tomorrow I’m off to watch an Eerste Divise (2nd division) game between FC Groningen and Willem II Tilburg.

Groningen is a great relaxed city with loads to do and is nowhere near as busy as Amsterdam.

FC Groningen have a lot in common with us atm, as the fans have genuinely been toxic due to the club being poorly run.

Had a good football weekend Madrid back in 2010 I think it was. On the same day we saw Getafe v Villarreal followed by Atlético v La Coruna directly afterwards. In Madrid you’ve got the two big clubs plus Getafe and Vallecano. Probably others too
