Goodison is a Special Place to Visit

Is the right word.

It's a trojan horse bit of nonsense to smuggle in the message: "All's well at Everton, so STFU with your bellyaching about your owners and being a big club and wanting success".

That article would never have seen the light of day if the recent criticism and actions against the Everton board hadn't have happened.
I don't disagree mate - I do however have my own mind and won't be swayed by this type of propaganda piece (subtle or otherwise) so am quite happy to enjoy the aspects that I agreed with.

If he thinks the Press Box - now called the Media Centre - is uncomfortable, he should try the back of Lower Gwladys Street Stand.

Goodison shouldn't be preserved as a monument to the sixties or the eighties. We want somewhere that looks towards a better future.

Exactly, otherwise the old Main Stand would still be there. We used to be a club that led the way, now we barely follow. We need to get our ambition back, all of us, board, players, staff and fans. We ARE Everton........

That is a great article.

This extract caught me but might get me into trouble.

Everton’s supporters, more than most, like to regard themselves and their club as special. “We are chosen,” goes the slogan on the club’s quite brilliant season-ticket advert (which they really could do with pitching to potential commercial partners rather than preaching to the converted). “We are born, not manufactured.” That might sound self-righteous, but it speaks of an authenticity and — that word again — soul that is increasingly rare at a time when, even across Stanley Park, Liverpool fans lament how the atmosphere at Anfield is being sanitised by the club’s eagerness to attract a different demographic.

Yeah I liked that bit, there was a few bits of the piece that were good. I agree with daveK though when he says it's a 'Trojan horse'.

As a Fan Goodison is sound for me, more than happy for us to stay there, I don't feel put out because it's old. I'm a million times more arsed that we're not competing on the pitch.

But don't you think there is a connection between a good team and a good stadium?

I'm not against it by any means especially if it would be beneficial to the team but lots of teams have had new grounds and it hasn't really effected there standing as clubs, Leicester, Middlesbrough and Sunderland off the top of my head.

All of the new stadiums built over the past 20 odd years are boring, soulless edifices. The Emirates might turn huge gazillions in profits but Arsenal haven't won the title since they have been there and as far as I'm concerned the board at Arsenal are happy with a perennial 4 th place finish and a guaranteed ticket on the champions league gravy train. We need vision from the board, Goodison Park being the blueprint and master plan going forward. Rebuild the grand old lady, there is still room in modern day football for heritage, look at Boca Juniors, keep the bear pit....onwards Evertonians

Nice timing for an article like this after the banner being flown and the Collymore show. Wonder how much the board paid him to write it...
