Goodison memories

….Bayern Munich, Borrusia Monchengladbach. West Brom 1970. The Alan Ball 1-0 Derby. Man Utd 5-0.

Watching the great players like Best, Law & Charlton. Every team had a star. Watching Alan Ball every other week. The ‘63 team, the ‘70 team, the mid-80s team. I watched them all. The things we took for granted.

This really…plus the 62-63 title winning side…..

Alex Young's match winning header v Spurs that clinched that title.

…..this one of his has to be one of the greatest Goodison goals.

It starts with trademark Ray Wilson faced by the great Bobby Charlton but still stopping the ball, taking a couple of steps back before passing (it’s exactly what I think of when remembering him). Alan Ball provides the assist and it finishes with Young taking it gracefully on his chest before floating past a Nobby Stiles lunge like only he could.

A true Everton goal;

Hi all, ahead of the new season I was thinking about the imminent move from Goodison to Bramley Moore and was reminiscing a bit on some of the highs and lows since having a season ticket in 2000/01 season. I went the game with my dad every week until he died 2 years ago, I take my lad now but he hasn’t experienced the same level of torment and false dawns I’ve seen over the years! I thought a thread where we could share some memories might be a nice thing to do ahead of the penultimate/final season at Goodison, as well as remembering some happier times than we’ve had in the last 2 years! I’ve come up with some categories, feel to add some others or reply with your own favourites in these categories. Only rule is you can’t have the same game in more than one section.

Top 3 performances
  1. Everton 3-0 Arsenal- felt we were on the brink of something special.
  2. Everton 4-0 Manchester City
  3. Everton 1-0 Liverpool- Carsley’s goal
Top 3 atmospheres
  1. Everton 2-0 Fiorentina
  2. Everton 1-0 Bournemouth
  3. Everton 1-0 Man U- Ferguson in 2005
Top 3 goals
  1. Arteta v Fiorentina
  2. Osman v Larissa. Still occasionally watch that on YouTube!
  3. Bit random but Beckford v Chelsea, last game of the season.
Top 3 late winners (or ‘limbs’ as the cool kids call it!)
  1. Radzinski v Southampton
  2. Rooney v Arsenal
  3. Gosling v Liverpool
Top 3 crowd shouts
  1. At half time there was a charity video on the screen with people bouncing a football, the voice over said ‘every time this ball bounces, a child dies of poverty.’ Someone shouted ‘stop bouncing the (expletive) ball then.’
  2. I can’t remember who we were playing but someone shouting ‘do him for pace Pembo’ at Mark Pembridge.
  3. Someone this shouting at Maupay this season ‘you are the slowest man ever to play professional football.’
That Coventry game....

Jags screamer at Anfield narrowly beats Radzinki's as my fave goal. Obvs not a winner, though.
Jags screamer at anfield is my choice for best goodison memory too. 😂

Ian rush coming on as sub in the fa cup for Newcastle one sopping Sunday afternoon where I was 25mins late and goodison was half full. Still remember his nose poking through the net as he celebrated his late winner right in front of me at the street end

Without being blaise...going the match was never an event like sky and the pl make out.
Memories even daft ones....a 3 star jumper being tied to the fence at the front of the paddock....a milk crate being launched towards the ref ....about 3 sheff utd fans in the paddock winding up the street end ....jesters jumping on the pitch with grobler...a storming of an empty park end during half time of a testimony, the stewards all al fellas, no yellow jackets, trying and chasing all back....a single blue food vendor taking on keeds in the park end....carnage v chelsea under the park end...mobs in the park end when the chance off a visiting mob would dare to appear...watching from the street end as blues would eventually take the middle....blackbeard getting a kicking fro. Newcastle, then brushing himself down and entering the foray with an alsasion dog....coppers getting tripped up after chasing blues.....

I’ve a horrible feeling that next week could be my last visit.
March 13th 1948 was my first visit to Goodson watching the first team, unforgettable running up the steps of the boys pen and looking at Goodison Park with a huge crowd versus Arsenal, even a 2-0 defeat never erased the memories of that day.
Six years later Dave Hickson scoring the winner versus Man.Unt. with a blood soaked bandage round his stitched up head. Alex Young’s header v Spurs,Colin Harvey’s clincher v WBA in 1970, Dominic’s saver v Crystal Pal.among the many great goals scored at The Grand Old Lady.

All these memories will be eclipsed when Kenwright is finally kicked out of Everton FC.

Going to miss Goodison so much!

I remember the first time i walked up the steps to see the pitch as a kid in the very early 80s
I remember queuing up from about 12 o'clock outside the paddock or Gwladys street.
I remember my dad and lifting me over the turnstiles or sitting on them bars before it was all seated
I remember the sway forward which took you off your feet in the Gwladys street when we scored

Goodison and us fans dont deserve to be in the position we're in for our last season.
The club is in the wrong hands.

Ironically though were in the hands of the guy who is building our new home.

Obviously all the successful years, trophy parades etc, but two in particular will never fade, sitting on my dads shoulders watching Pele and Jairzinho get beat by Eusebio’s Portugal. At the time arguably the three best footballers on the planet. The other was seeing Everton destroy Chelsea 6:0 and the Latch knock up his 30th goal of the season.
