Goodison memories

March 13th 1948 was my first visit to Goodson watching the first team, unforgettable running up the steps of the boys pen and looking at Goodison Park with a huge crowd versus Arsenal, even a 2-0 defeat never erased the memories of that day.
Six years later Dave Hickson scoring the winner versus Man.Unt. with a blood soaked bandage round his stitched up head. Alex Young’s header v Spurs,Colin Harvey’s clincher v WBA in 1970, Dominic’s saver v Crystal Pal.among the many great goals scored at The Grand Old Lady.

All these memories will be eclipsed when Kenwright is finally kicked out of Everton FC.
Thought you were kenwright when I read the first bit.. Must be great memories mate. Sadly our gradual decline has left us hanging on for dear life. My first visit was I think 1988 4-1 v Southampton. Been pretty much downhill since then. Probably my fault

Obviously all the successful years, trophy parades etc, but two in particular will never fade, sitting on my dads shoulders watching Pele and Jairzinho get beat by Eusebio’s Portugal. At the time arguably the three best footballers on the planet. The other was seeing Everton destroy Chelsea 6:0 and the Latch knock up his 30th goal of the season.
Pele kicked to pieces. Binned all my World Cup ticket stubs and the envelope.😕

Definitely your fault, you were born too late, mind you I wouldn’t mind switching places with you!

I’d forgotten about that Johnson one. The ridiculous hail storm just added to the drama!
It seemed like the crowd sensed that something was going to happen when we got that corner in the dying seconds, Arsenal had been the better team but with the sleet and hail blowing in their faces as they came back to defend the corner, you just felt that they wanted to get off the pitch and take the one point back with them. A real goosebumps moment! And in my earlier list of "best atmosphere" I can't believe I didn't mention the FA Cup 5th round tie replay against Southampton in 1981. They said the gate was 49000 but I've never been in such a packed crowd as that one, I'm sure there'll be many on here who remember it. The atmosphere was intense. They were a very good team with Keegan, Channon etc.. but we beat them in extra time with a goal from Eamon O'Keefe. Sadly we ballsed it up against Man City in the QF, giving away a late equaliser and losing the replay but that was another intense occasion too on what was a genuinely exciting cup run with us also knocking out Arsenal (who had played in the previous 3 finals)and obviously the Liverpool victory as well.

Three pages in, and nobody has mentioned this. I've seen us win trophies, beat Munich, Manure 5-0 and many others. But for a 17 year old, watching Clemence grasping at thin air as the ball sailed into the top corner, this remains my greatest moment watching the blues.

Oddly just been on the Big Match Revisited. After getting thrashed by United on Boxing Day we beat Arsenal 2-0 a sublime finish by Andy King clinched it. Latchford scoring his 20th that's right 20th goal of the season on New Year's Day.
We are on it again next Saturday in the fa cup v Villa from Jan 78.

Still my own personal favourite after all these years,I was thirteen, had never seen us beat “them”,you just had to be there,RIP Kingy and thanks💙

This might sound mad to anyone born after 1960..........one of my favourite games at Goodison, I watched at Anfield.
Back in 1967 the 5th round of the FA Cup had Everton v Liverpool drawn against each other, demand for tickets was through the roof, these are the days before Sky, the Internet and dodgy fire sticks.
It was decided that they would beam the game live to anfield and show the game on big screens placed in all corners of the ground, over 100,000 fans saw the game as it happened 64,000 at Goodison and 46,000 at the Pit.
I was only 10 at the time and had to go in the Boys pen at Anfield to see the game, my cousin was a RS supporter and I can remember jumping all over him when Alan Ball scored what proved to be the winner.

…..this one of his has to be one of the greatest Goodison goals.

It starts with trademark Ray Wilson faced by the great Bobby Charlton but still stopping the ball, taking a couple of steps back before passing (it’s exactly what I think of when remembering him). Alan Ball provides the assist and it finishes with Young taking it gracefully on his chest before floating past a Nobby Stiles lunge like only he could.

A true Everton goal;

Devastating, that touch and shimmy. Wallop!
