I'm 5,11 and weigh in at 14 stone at the moment. Want to get down to 13 stone, as you get older its harder to lose the weight.

My plan is healthy eating, and drinking once every two weeks ( gin and tonic ) for the next few months. Gym routine will be free weights, Four sets of 8-10 reps. I'm not training to be slim, just want to cut down on my body fat and increase my power. Plenty of dead lifts and squats is my weapon of choice.

Cardio will be swimming and plenty of long walks in the hills and stuff.

It's good to get an idea around portion sizes as well. As you say, it does depend on lifestyle, but I find a good guide is to figure out your BMR, which will tell you roughly how many calories you'd burn if you stayed in bed all day. From that you can add on a wee bit depending on how you spend your day (desk job less than a manual one etc.) + any you estimate you burn off during exercise.

Portion sizes; great points. It's so easy to overeat. One good thing to do is just to cook what you plan to eat, and not a second portion or a portion for lunch tomorrow. I know for sure if I cook another pasta for two meals it'll all get eaten on the same day...

I'd tend to take some of the online calculators for calories burnt with a pinch of salt. There's a formula for cycling that figures it out based on your power output, but not sure for running etc.

Just tried out that BMR test

"You have a BMR of 1739.33."

Still thinking hard about buying a treadmill.

Pretty certain I'm between 12-12.5 stone at the moment. 6 foot 1 here so I'm pretty lean at the moment. Got chicken legs FFS.

pretty healthy them mate as long as you take the skin off first

main thing most people need to cut out is the "refined processed carbs" absolutely no need for them in the body whatsoever

cut them out, and you've taken your fist steps on the road to the much coveted "buns of steel"

Anyone ever done their bmi and body fat % at Boots? Did it the other day for the first time in ages, and it's 15.3%.
Good is under 16.9% and excellent is under 10.2%. I'd hazard a guess that Bruce is under that 10.2%.

Just agreed to buy this second hand for £275.

I'm about 8% at the moment. Bit heavier than the summer though. After my main race of the year in Italy last June I got home and was 6%. Will hopefully get back to that sort of level for this years main event in Austria.

Cardio is probably key. We went out there around a week before the race, just doing some riding about. Think we covered around 400km with a comfortable 10,000 metres of climbing. Couple that with eating healthily that week and we both lost a few kg.

Do that on a regular basis and you'd be as fit as a whippet.

400km

Kin hell.

We were right in the heart of the Sella Ronda. Best place in the world for cycling imo. Was lucky it was so cold that week to be honest or we might have gone out more. Snowed on a couple of the days. In June. Bit mad.
