Awesome Sauce!
Nice diet, too - it's impossible to eat too much protein and veggies. Anything green is great.

Diet & exercise are two sides of the same coin. You can't seriously tackle one in isolation without looking at the other, moreso the older you get.

Still a big fan of the booze, though, me. (although wine, not beer).

Thanks mate.

See for me now I just don't see it as a ' diet ' as such. Well a diet designed for weight loss anyways......

Its just become my way of life now and is my normal. Others around me could look at me and believe I'm on this diet but its just instinctive now to just eat right. I find it easy to say no to things.

I've put enough research into foods that I now pretty much know how many calories and sugar is in each product. The first 3 months I counted calories and stuck to a strict limit of 1300 a day. Then I started looking at sugar intake in foods and combined them both together so that I now eat a limit of 1500 calories and no more than 50g of sugar daily in all my foods. The sugar intake can be much lower and often it is but 50g is my upper limit.

1 can of coke has roughly 35g in it so you get an idea of what I'm doing.

I think what you've achieved and what you aim to achieve In the future are fantastic. I'm now 38, in just 19 day of not drinking alcohol, eating healthier and exercising regularly I've lost 9 pounds..... Doesn't sound a lot I know but it's not a strict diet or anything , just a common sense approach... I play 5 a side once a week sometimes twice and I run 3 or 4 nights a week varying distances between 2 and 5 miles.... I'm just over 16 stone now but I'm about 6 foot 1 inch and not of skinny build at all.... I want to lose another stone in the next month or two and I'll be ok with that.

I agree mate, sugar is the enemy. I'm a low-carber myself, at least when I'm taking my health seriously. I don't calorie count, and never have since I discovered low carb.

9lb is a LOT of weight mate. Especially in such a short time frame. To lose just 1lb of fat, the body has to burn 3500 calories and so 9lb is infact great. Its a lot of hard work. Good for you kurt and I think another 14lb in 2 months is very much doable. Keep to sensible goals like this.

Just stick to what you're doing mate.

I'm 6 feet 4 so when I mention I'm X amount of weight, it still could be seen as ' you fat [Poor language removed]' lol..... for me now its not so much as a weight target but more of a certain look. We all know muscle is heavier than fat.

Keep it up mate.

Its great to see so many lads hitting the gym and trying to eat healthy. Its hard in this day and age with all the convient fast foods about.

I'd say its 85% eating right and the combo of doing this and going the gym or exercising at home can have amazing results for your fitness over time.

On july 15th 2013 I weighed in at an astonishing 23 stone 5 and I've never felt so down. This was 2 weeks after my divorce and I pretty much dedicated my life to just going to work and then coming home and hitting the gym. July 16th I set out on my life changing quest and battled my way through. After a daily routine of sweat and in some cases, tears......... I'm down to 16 stone 8 today.

My whole life has changed and Im now on of those lads that drink protein shakes and peanut butter before hitting the weights monday through friday. Weekends I rise at 6 am and hit the roads in my town going for 5 mile jogs...... its astonishing when I look back to what I was. I'm back into a 36 jeans. Still got at least another 12 months before I get to my target but I wouldn't change this for anything.

Keep to it lads. :D

Bloody hell mate, you don't need me to tell you this but well done, that's amazing!

Like you wouldn't believe. The confidence its gave me is ridiculous. Hahaha I think I deserve to be able to admit that I look good now and without sounding a **** ......... I catch woman looking. Great feeling and is a form of motivation to keep it going.

Worth it for that reason alone! You are right though, it motivates you to keep going. I suppose once you've got to a certain level then it makes it harder to slip out of it as well.

My meals are basically either fish or chicken with lots of veggies and fruit.

Breakfast is either scrambled eggs or porridge mixed with a scoop of protein powder. I honestly haven't felt this good for about 15 years and painfully regret not keeping in shape through my 20's. Taking vitamin tablets is also part of my day.

I'm actually proud to say I've now eliminated booze from my life. Not because I was drinking excessively but because its just almost impossible to lose the weight I was faced with whilst on my quest. So I stopped and at the start it was hard but once I broke the mental game, it was clear sailing.

Good stuff. I can't really afford to go mad on the diet but I eat loads of scrambled eggs too! Probably go through about 20-25 eggs a week, which will probably harm me in some way. I eat a lot of chicken too, also canned fish (haddock, sardines, mackerel), mince, and like you I just mix in a load of vegetables. I snack on things like Ryvita, granola, cottage cheese, Greek yoghurt, nuts, fruit and various dried fruits. I must admit though I do still sneak in the odd packet of noodles when I can't be bothered cooking!

Fortunately mainly due to a fast metabolism, I've never been even slightly overweight, but I use to eat 2-3 packets of crisps a day, every single day, chocolate, loads of biscuits, cheese and crackers etc.. almost every night before bed! Don't miss it at all now.

All very good mate.

I snack on almonds and pumpkin seeds in an evening if or when I get the urge to eat.

The fish I have is tilapia, salmon and cod. Just plain fish and I season myself. I don't really have a huge budget myself but there is good deals out there is you can be bothered to look and take the time searching. Just gotta be smart like.

Your list here above though is good. Pretty much similar to myself. I don't have what others call cheat days because basically I love what I'm eating anyway. Lol

I will on a sunday after my run, buy one of those rotisserie chickens ( 2lb ) and just devour it until only the carcass is left hahaha.... obviously I throw away the skin.

Since I've been on ' my quest ' and people and friends around me can see the results and the impact its had on my life in such a short space of time, its inspired others to begin something for themselves. I get messages all the time and I'm only happy to respond and be there for those that want help.... if you will.

I've been a fat [Poor language removed] and its no fun. I now enjoy helping people and giving advice and just trying to motivate those that are struggling. I know how hard it is

Get the healthy eating thing. I eat very healthy Monday to Friday and then let it go for the weekend.

You know you've got it cracked when you find yourself choosing to eat healthy on the weekend too. Spot on about having to combine with training as you get older for the real effects.

I can see my six pack again. Won't last like.

Here's a tip for getting rid of Belly fat - and seeing that elusive 6-pack....Coconut oil! cook with it - eat a teaspoon a day - smother it on your balls if you like, just use it.

That, and shed loads of cardio, and swerving the ale...try it and you too could look like Azul!

Or just count your calories. This is the simplest and best method for shedding any weight...

Does today count as the weekend then with us playing tonight? I can imagine a few ' one for the road ' drinks after that tonight.

I feel like having a six pack of my own right now lad. Not drank beer since my birthday in august last year. Its amazing what your team drives you to do ain't it. I might just hold on though

Regarding sugar, most "sugar" in food now is HFCS, which is very very bad indeed.

Have you seen this video? It is a very damming verdict on the spread of HFCS in our foods today.

(as a low-carb follower, I don't agree with all of this, especially when he starts totting up calorie totals, and the rise of zero cal "diet" drinks leaves a big hole in his argument, but it is a big step in the right direction nonetheless.)

I also like Gary Taubes (Good Calories/Bad Calories)

This is a good thread. I'd like to add my own thoughts about myself.

I am between 5'9 and 5'10 and currently weigh around 81.5 kg (12.8 stone).

Obviously this is too much, and I'd like to lose a total of around five kilos, and as much of that as possible from my stomach.

I'm down from 82.9 kg (actually weighed in at 81.1 kg this morning) to about 81.5 kg after a week and a half, so it's going well. That's around 1.5 kg in 1.5 weeks.

My method:
- No alcohol
- Drink lots of water
- No chocolate or crisps [Note: I love chocolate and crisps. And where I work there is constantly stuff like that being passed around, birthdays with people bringing in cakes, muffins, etc, agh.]
- No (or as few as possible) carbs after work

Bought myself a yoga mat for my bedroom and do between 200 - 300 crunches on a typical day and can feel my stomach muscles after each session, and have taken up jogging.

My first jog was a struggle although I managed 5km. I took about three breaks to slow to a walk and was tired by the end of it, didn't feel like I could do further.

My last two jogs (I've done about six or seven) were about 6.5km each, and done in a relatively decent time of about 33 minutes, with only one walk of a minute in between.

I still need to lose around 4.5 kg, and estimate if I can keep this up I can get there within the next five weeks, or by the end of February. I'd be absolutely made up if I achieved that, but I won't be happy until I get rid of what stomach fat I have and I fear even with 77 kg I won't be happy with it.

Nope. Sunday evening is the cut off for any ale and fat foods lid. Nothing until Friday evening now.

I've lost about 5kg in the past two months. Nice and easy so am down to 100kg now. I'm six foot three so its not that bad.

Would love to lose another 5 kg like.
