Been touring the south of france, only 600m from the summit of the col de mente suffered excruciating cramp whiched caused my quads to lock, practically fell off and couldnt bend my knees for a minute or so. Then every other muscle in my leg cramped up. After a few mins i managed to crawl the rest of the way, luckily there was a cafe at the col.
Got a tough ride again tomorrow, any way of avoiding this happening again?
I suspect it's a mixture of heat and effort. I suffered a similar thing on the final bit of the Mortirolo, and it's horrible. That day was mid 30's, and a really hard ride, so I think it was probably a mixture of sweating a lot, and the ride being a lot for my legs.
Do you have enough gears to gently spin up the climb or are you grinding up?
