Aye, you maybe right. You need a lot of motivation for swimming too as it can get a bit dull. With running or cycling you at least get a lot of external stimuli.
it can do yeah, I'm a regular swimmer, and you can change it up a bit doing the different strokes and what have you, but soon as you switch to backstroke or breaststroke it becomes a bit less challenging and it's not "cardio" enough for me, that's why I started the running as well

nutrition still the main thing for losing weight anyway I reckon, or changing body composition at least

Aye, I used to do butterfly in my younger days. Can manage about 50m these days before I'm dying. Amazing how quickly fitness goes.

Indeed, I'd be knackered without this...

Not done anything for 6 weeks exactly, time to get back on the horse. Miss cycling in Manchester what with the amount of options and the fact that its mostly flat. Back on isle its hill after hill after hill. It's a bit of a Bruce paradise but I much prefer the longer flatter routes, especially when trying to get back into it after a break.

Last two weeks i've decided to leave the car at home and travel to work by train. However, the train station in my town is 3 miles away...

So instead of getting up for work at 5.15am, i've been setting my alarm for 4.45am and have been jogging the 3 miles to the train station. I've got to admit that doing this last week was a killer; especially when it was raining one morning, but i have stuck with it (so far).

Have been thinking about adding more cardio to my gym sessions and after looking at my life schedule, i decided to give this a go to fit it in (not enough hours in the day). Of course jogging those 3 miles to the train station each morning without the car, means i have to come back the 3 miles without it also; but i've chose to walk back instead of jog.

Monday - Friday

Wake up at 4.45am
Leave the house by 5.10am
Jog the 3 miles to the station
Grab the 5.45am train
Walk the 3 miles back after work
45 mins weight training in my gym.

Not going to lie, but this is kicking my arse. I like a challenge though. So far so good

Since moving and starting this new job I've hardly been to the gym at all. I've also started comfort eating at the weekends as a 'reward' for eating well during the week, although I'm visiting the on site canteen more and more frequently each week. Last night I ate: A steak and kidney pie, a pizza, a Rustlers burger, a massive bag of crisps, a bag of Twirl Bites and a pack of Galaxy cookies.

I am disgusting.

Here I am slumped over on the toilet in pain, a shadow of my former self, a tear in my eye.

I have no excuse either as there's about 4 gyms within a 10 minute walk from my flat.

Tomorrow.

don't worry about it chum, I've heard twirl bites count as one of your five a day

One of my goals this winter is to transition to minimalist running shoes. Hopefully it will improve my running gait and ultimately make me a better runner once I have adjusted. Been listening to lots of running podcasts.. "Trail Runner Nation" & "Runner Academy" are my favourites.

Got a 10k at the end of November and am eyeing another marathon in March.
Have signed up again to do the 24hr solo skate in June.. it's gonna be brutal :-)

Are you doing MOrun mate?

I managed to get out for 2 runs this week, knocked 3 minutes off my 4 mile time in a week, well happy with that.

This is the 10km I'm doing: http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/events/viewevent.asp?sp=&v=2&EN=84154&ms=

And this is the marathon/half that I'm eyeing up: http://www.hermesrunning.com/pages_v4/TM.shtml . It seems a really good alternative if you can't get into the London Marathon (and lets face it, that's most of us).

Both fairly local to me so I don't have to faff around with transport too much etc :)
