10k in 49.27 yesterday. Very happy with that.

Will get one more big run (will try to do over 10k) later this week, before the 10k on the 4th.
I’ve got a 10 k on 4th too, but just coming back after taking three weeks off so won’t be pushing it . I had some family things to sort then a heavy cold so decided to refresh myself with a few weeks off, build back up again .

Did my 17th Great South Run yesterday...1hr 23mins... not bad for a 56 year old ... with the blues winning it was a good day all-round
Found my 1984 running diary the other day ( 11 years older than you!) and 10 miles were my most frequent races , I did 8 or 9 that year around 57 - 59 mins usually. I used to love their symmetry and planning to do another 10 mile race mid December. I did my first for many years back in August as part of a Highland Games, a great 10 miler but if went straight up over the local hill for the first four miles and was mainly good trails, took me 92 mins . I’ll be back next year to beat that time!

Did a second 10k on Sunday just gone. 51 mins, so slightly slower, although I included more hills so I wasn't really surprised.

Given the 10k race I'm doing is a pretty flat route, I'm hopeful of getting 47-49. Did 5.5k in 26 yesterday so I should be on for that target.

Christ, I'd be nowhere close to doing 10 miles in 60 minutes! :D

Nice time mate

Cheers matey!

Did 2.8 miles in 22 minutes today, nice little quick one to get the blood pumping a bit. Probably my last run before Sunday as I want to get in the gym tomorrow. Will maybe go friday if I feel like it, but a fair few on here recommended rest for a few days prior to the race.

The fitness I've got over the last few weeks has been a real boost. Probably have levelled off with the weight loss (I did lose 7 lbs in three weeks) over the last week or so as I've been eating more because my runs have been longer. My fitness is up though (the tips from here have helped a lot) and I'm enjoying it, so once this 10k is out of the way (I don't particularly like organised events, I prefer just doing my own thing, but it's through work) I'm gonna get back on the stricter diet a bit to try and shed the extra 4-5lbs I want to. I'm naturally a small build, I just need to keep on top of it and I definitely prefer winter running to the summer months.

Good going that mate, is right.

Nothing better than when your having a good go and you start feeling the rewards, completely changed your whole outlook.

Keep it up lad!

I`m not a fan of organised events either as they tend to be populated by people who`ve made a point of doing hardly training and tell everyone about it or people who`ve done lots and lots of training and tell everyone about it.

However there are events which are " non competitive " that aren`t like this - a lot of the trail half marathons for example.

They aren`t long enough for the " serious " runners to enter, but at the same time, they`re too hard for the " I`ve done no training brigade ", so you get a really good crowd at them.

They`re in some beautiful locations too - the Lakes, Snowdonia, on the Coast etc and are reasonably cheap to enter -£35.

Question for any experts out there: I've recently started using free weights as part of my work out and have been progressing through the weights quite well. But I've been doing bicep curls and got up to 14KG and then the last couple of times I seem to be able to do less and less reps each time. Is that a normal sort of fluctuation that will level out at some point?

Probably not giving yourself enough time for the muscles to regenerate, try doing your max for one arm session and then the next time you do arms do less weight and more reps to help with endurance

Went to start my diet yesterday with a healthy tea followed by the gym & then two hours playing football. Felt tired when I got home so ordered Dominos, sacked the gym off, found a replacement for football & stuck Daredevil.

Wish me luck for tonight.
To be honest mate, you are destined to fail if you are looking to work out four hours a day and starve yourself. make some sensible lifestyle changes and continue to educate yourself as you go
