GOT Needs Your Help

For what it is worth, that is exactly the reason I downloaded AdBlocker in the first place. (Added GOT as my sole exception this morning)

This site, imho, has definitely got the balance right. Being honest, I could even live with a few more ads provided they were not overly intrusive e.g. taking a while to load, and then conveniently loading just in time to shift the page down just as you are about to click a link (this never ceases to make me turbofume).

Sites like the Times Online - which I pay a comparatively hefty monthly subscription fee to access - have gone way overboard with their ads, by contrast. Were it not for the fact that it is still the most reliable and balanced news source I can find, I would have jibbed it off ages ago. You can tell they have paid some top dollar to some marketing bods to literally max out what they can subject their fee-paying readership to by way of ads. Sad, but that's the nature of the game on t'interweb these days it seems.

Completely agree. I Unfortunately a lot of websites don't do us any favours. Last year, Everton's own official website would have auto videos, as would others like BlueKipper so it's fair to expect the fan base would be enabling adblock and it would impact here.

The majority of our desktop traffic have adblock enabled, what some platforms do is chase that lost revenue through ads that are more prominent/invase (autoplay etc) but for me, that kills a website.

Never shout Hi to a friend called Jack in an airport.

Sorry mods, I'm back on topic now.
Hey GOT noticed when browsing on chrome on my mobile today that I wasn't seeing any ads at all, I certainly don't have adblock installed on it. Is this just a result of me being a forum supporter?

Yes mate - will copy an paste below for others to see.

We don't have intrusive adverts, but if you really, really don't want to see an advert on here, you can;

  • Upgrade your forum account. We have a 'Forum Supporter' account upgrade which is essentially, a donation system. You can pay £20 which removes adverts, you get a GrandOldTeam mug to a UK address and a few more enhanced forum features.

And that is why I didn't begrudge chucking a few quid your way to help keep the forum going.

It's in good hands while user experience is prioritised above a quick fix to the funding question. Fair play to you mate.

I do see ads though, not that it's a problem at all or that they are in anyway intrusive other than the one I mentioned to you and you kindly sorted. Happy to see them even, knowing that they help the site run.
Get one at the bottom of each page in every other browser (Chrome and firefox on the desktop and Dolphin browser on the phone) but just not on Chrome on my phone. Does being upgraded fully filter ads out or just trim it down to the one at the bottom?

Being a massive pedant here like but just curious.

The one at the very bottom?

Sounds like Chrome is blocking it. Odd, send us your phone spec (operating system/type of phone) via conversation if you dont mind mate.

@Elong is a good one mate...he just is baiting you as an American. You can easily do the same in the Rugby World Cup thread in the Alehouse. Don't tell Longy I told ya...

Cheesy, he started baiting when he decided to roll on Chico because he thought he was cool.

If you're going to try American baiting, there's a much richer tapestry to draw from than baseball and Donovan. If you're going to do it, do it well.

It's a shame that you can't block access to the site or at least make it unreadable for those using ad block software, I've seen other sites do it but assume it's something to do with the forum software you're using ?

If it was me I'd block access or visibility to anybody with Adblock on. Absolutely no excuse to have it enabled on here.

49ers fan should be antagonized. At all times.

They definitely get wound up very easily when you say something like 'it's a shame San Francisco couldn't hold on to it's team'.

They are so in denial about the move. I simply suggested that they should be the San Jose 49ers as it's the dominant city with over a million people in Santa Clara County. Massively wound them up.

I mean really, it would be like Oakland moving to Candlestick and retaining Oakland.

Anyway. Click on an ad or something.
