GOT Wrestle Fest Fan Thread

Despite the card, thought AEW was a bit weaker than the previous weeks - although, fighting to keep my eyes open may have had something to do with that.

Biggest take away is that Darby Allin is going to be a star.

Neither Cody or Jericho have been able to ‘beat’ him.

AEW need to be careful that they don't create an environment where fans expected mega showdowns every single week. That's not a workable long term strategy. I've loved all three shows so far but I think they need to slow down a bit. It just seems like every weekly show has had a PPV feel to it and as great as that is they won't be able to do that every single week.

True but Remmebr at this point and as Tony Khan has said they don't plan on doing house shows, so they are into wrestling once a week where big matches are probably managable on the body rather than 5 days of lesser matches and travel etc

Really enjoying aew,
Wwe is sinking badly it just gets worse and worse I can't really say anything about it that hasn't been said before

One thing I have noticed is how they keep forcing future matches rather than developing a story to them

Ambrose attacked omega so they have a match. Ambrose attacks PAC so they have a match.

I get it's early days but there isn't any coherency in the shows other than people attacking other people. That may be an issue long term as it will be less a show and more a wrestling match collection each week. Like it or not, the fans tune in for stories not just wrestling.

To be fair, they haven't had enough time to create a ranking heirachy yet, so it kind of makes sense,
People seizing opportunities etc...

Genuinely enjoyed them so far, it's brought back an attitude era feel without the sleaze
The time limit gimmicks are fun, especially the 'for the remaining tv time' bit

Oh I don't doubt that their guys and gals can manage one big match a week physically mate.

The problem is that they will run out of "big matchs" "first ever matchs" very quickly if they structure every single dynamite show as if it was a PPV. It's simply not sustainable to have every show like that. I get that they're just three weeks into their new show and want to make a good impression and pander to their core audience (I'd fit into that category) but just having top quality matchs every week wont be enough.

They need structure and storylines and they need to pace themselves better. Three weeks in and Jericho has a faction and four guys with him. Why are they on his side? What do they hope to gain? And why didn't AEW stagger the whole thing out? These are basic things you need to structure a story so it doesn't run its course to quickly.

I'm really enjoying AEW right now but they need to understand that just having great matchs every single week isn't enough to create a good show. WCW Nitro did that after Russo was kicked to the curb and it didn't work for them either. The point is that if AEW want to grow or even just maintain their audiance they have to add variety to their show. They can do no wrong right now, everyone watching their show desperately wants them to succeed so they're riding on people's goodwill but that won't last forever and they need to get themselves in order before that happens if they hope to grow.

Loving AEW at the moment as well. One problem though is the refs. In the first week Mox attacked Omega in the middle of a regular tag team match straight in front of the ref, who just shrugged and let it continue 2v1. This week the ref enforced rope breaks in a street fight. Might just be me, but I get annoyed by stuff like that.

Rope breaks are enforced in a street fight because it's not falls count anywhere.

They explained the rules on commentary. Also happens in New Japan.

Putting the Kenny Omega match on their AEW Dark show on YouTube was a stroke of pure genius. Its things like that, that'll win them new fans who wouldn't of even looked at their product. Best piece of buisness they've done so far. They introduced a star that casuals might of heard of but aren't familiar with and highlighted a great match.

AEW showing the win/loss record is one of their stupider ideas so far.... Grand now, but long term it will become a mess... Will they just make it a form guide (last 10 fights?) or a year long record, or a career record?... Boxers and UFC fighters have about 4 fights a year, wrestlers have matches every week, and because of this nearly every wrestler loses matches, lots of matches....and if a babyface loses by outside interference, (which protects him on the night) its still a loss on his record every night afterwards... Gonna be hard to build new stars when we're reminded every week of how many times they've been beat already...

I've long thought WWE should do something like this, but long term records defo won't work. Current year/season might work tho.

I think it'll be one of those things that will quietly just disappear in the near future. I like the idea but its been poorly executed.

They should keep win/losses ratio for championship matchs (make them happen less often and make a bigger deal out of it when they do) and maybe have head-to-head records of the guys and gals who have angles going.

Could limit it to PPV records for the Year...
