My lasting memories of Graeme Sharpe player were the screamer he scored against Spurs, a volley at the Park End which I think may have been his first goal for the club, the first goal in the cup final against Watford, and the absolute beauty he scored against the other crowd at their place.
But my lasting memory of Graeme Sharpe the man, was over 20 years ago when I went as a member of the audience at the Legends phone in on Century radio, which was held in a suite at the Park End. During the interval, I went to get myself a drink which had been provided by the club. Mickey Thomas wandered over to me, asked me my name and got me a coffee, and then chatted for a few minutes asking what I did for a living, how long I had been following Everton etc. He came across as a really nice fella. Whilst all this was going on, what did Mr Sharpe do? He stood at the bar talking to Ronnie Whelan, and never engaged with any fans once. That incident sort of tarnished his legacy for me!
