I know Charlie, as it happens. Well, I did. We used to email about a decade ago when he was just making a name for himself, primarily writing football/travel books. I've got all of his books and, aside from In Search of Elvis, they're all quality.

Also, tomorrow night on Radio 2, is a new series on the history of prog music, which apparently started in the 1950s.

I started but realised it would have been much easier if I had a mobile. However - - -

"Close enough to touch", a BBC radio drama about the sinking of the HMS Thetis in Liverpool Bay. Or the BBC Radio version of Len Deighton's Bomber. Both successfully managed to transmit the absolute awfulness of both situations.

They are like having a little computer in your hand now. Amazingly, they also make phone calls. And they have radios, FM and Internet, before we are banned for being off topic. Go on, you know you want to. Apple iPhones are pricey but just work. But they all work. But any old cak and a sim card (with your phone number) from GiffGaff.

Great show, I only really discovered that station last week when on holiday in Cartmel (the blackhole of Calcutta for any type of signal, especially O2) and the variety of old shows is fantastic, something for everyone
