Groucho's Fact Hunt

The circumference of Earth at the equator is about 24,000 miles. Given it rotates 360 degrees on its axis every 24 hours, at the equator it's turning at 1000 miles an hour.
Earth is 93 million miles (average) from the sun (i.e. 1 Astronomical Unit {AU})
Knowing the circumference of a circle is 2πr, we know the distance Earth travels around the sun in a year(365 days) is around 585 million miles.
So... we all are travelling through space at 18 miles a second, whilst rotating on our axial plane at speeds approaching the velocity of sound.

The obvious question then? : if we are all travelling at such breakneck speed, why is Goodison's cladding taking so long??

Assuming the Earth to be a perfect Sphere, calculate how fast it is turning in Liverpool, England.

This is a shameful date in British history.
A certain poisonous rag that I refuse to mention was published for the first time on this day in 1969.
Pedalling lies and deceit for the last 47 years.

Never knew this until they said it on the radio then.

Elvis Costello is from Birkenhead.

Elvis was ok in his day, more for the moment I guess and has had a good run for his money.

Here are some photos of him and the band around Birkenhead about 1979,at Oak/Eldon Gardens which were demolished in 79,outside a house on Upton Road near Bidston Hill,at the old clockwork orange shop which I think was on Price Street and at Bidston Observatory.

Mad to think he is yet another star as it were with roots in birkenhead. Same as paul o grady and Charlie Landsborough, massive stars and all from birkenhhead.

In fact my great uncle used to go to his local pub decades ago up near upton/beechwood estate and charlie would be playing in there, next thing you know he is a massive country star.

haha it is one of those odd things because if it wasn't for my nan i wouldn't have a clue who he was. but he was massive over in america, being a country singer they made him a star, and when the star burned out a little he came back. Not my cup of tea music wise but the fellas name carries some weight, perhaps not johnny cash weight but still lol

*As the earth orbits around the sun on roughly a 360 degree track, if you take earth at zero degrees and then pause it halfway round, 180 degrees, the gap in between is roughly 16 light minutes.

*Any inaccuracies on this are all the interweb's fault.

Who the frig is Charlie Lansborough?!

Who the frig is Charlie Lansborough?!
big country and western star years ago mate.

Charlie’s talent started to gain recognition and he appeared with George Hamilton IV at the Wembley Arena before thousands of people, headlined the British Country Musical Festival in Worthing, appeared on the Wembley Conference Centre as part of Mervyn Conn’s great International Country Musical Festival, for the songwriters presentation and performed at the Albert Hall as part of the cavalcade of British Country Music.

All his hard work was beginning to pay off and 1988 saw the start of his numerous awards beginning to flood in: 1988 and 1989 Lazyacre C.M.C. solo awards, 1989 Smokey Mountain C.M.C. solo artist of the year, 1989 Cliffsons C.M.C. top solo award. This gained him momentum and by 1990 the Music Industry were starting to sit up and notice Charlie’s ability, both as a song-writer and a singer; he went on to win every award possible in the Country Music scene. The awards are too numerous to mention individually, however, they comprise of best songwriter, best song, best male vocalist, best performer of the year, best album and International Country Album of the year. He also received a nomination as best Global Country Artist in the Country Music Association Awards in Nashville. Many of his albums have topped the Country Charts, as well as getting into the British Pop Charts. He also became one of the all-time biggest selling artists in Irish Music history.
