Groucho's Fact Hunt

View attachment 33624

Following the recent closure of the Bridge Inn, on Childwall Valley Road, the areas of Netherley, Belle Vale and Lee
Park no longer have any pubs that are open at all.

This is the largest area in the U.K.without a public house.

How sad is that
Has the Blue Peter gone? I was in there one time and someone tried to sell me a kitchen...

Most populated area without an alehouse or something similar, though? There's 100 sq mile areas in Scotland with no pub.

Is the shopping centre still there? Seriously bleak

Blue Peter went years ago - was well dodgy and the footy team were frightening !

It's the largest " urban " area without a pub.

The shopping centre is still there and is still as bleak. If you want to go on an immediate downer, that's the place to go.

It's like Wayne and Waynetta slob have multiplied and decided to all go shopping at once.

It's a truly deadful place and the only place that comes close is the precinct in Birkenhead / Widnes town centre.

Not entirely surprising. Wonder if it's recently taken over from an Indian language, or if there are too many variations for one of them to become that widely spoken??

Whats happened though? Just a massive influx of Polish? If they all look like Ewa Sonnet then I spose it aint a bad thing!

The Dutch hunger famine took place in 1944, due to German blockade of food supplies into the Netherlands at the end of WW2. Pregnant women who came to term during the famine gave birth to small babies, who frequently remained small all their life. In a significant portion of cases, their children were small [ie grandkids of the famine survivors].
How can this be? Epigenetics, lad, and studying the famine was a major component in developing what is now a huge area of scientific research [how the environment can create heritable traits].

Audrey Hepburn was a survivor of the famine, and had health problems her whole life ascribed to it.

Dunno who she is :o

I feel like there has been a lot on Indian/Pakistani/Nepalese etc here for a long time, whilst the increase in Eastern Europeans is more recent. That's just my personal impression tho, not based on any hard facts or evidence! :o
