Groucho's Fact Hunt

Ian Fleming's James Bond is named after the American Ornithologist of the same name.

Fleming was a keen ornithologist and used the name after meeting the real Bond and his wife.

Bonds agency number - 007 was taken from a WW1 German Diplomatic code that was broken by the British.

Fleming used his own taste in food, cigarettes, golf handicap and names of friends / relatives / ex girlfriends as part of the Bond character.

The original 'M' (Maxwell Knight) whom Fleming based the character in his novels was recruited from British Fascisti, the first British fascist party. He was the Director of Intelligence, but claimed that he was working for MI5.
