Groucho's Fact Hunt

Mt Everest is the highest land point above sea level on Earth and the Mariana Trench in the Pacific is the deepest point below sea level. However, the top of Mount Everest is not the furthest (terrestrial) point from the centre of the Earth, nor is the bottom of the Mariana Trench the closest to it. This is due to the Equatorial diameter of Earth being 12,756 km, whilst the polar diameter is 12,714 km (i.e. Earth isn't a 'true' sphere)

When Coventry beat Spurs in the 87 Cup Final, Spurs played in the kit they would be wearing the next season - the only problem was only half the shirts had the Holsten sponsor on the front, the other shirts were blank!

Quarks;
some sort of fancy tiny particle thing, turns out they come in 6 'flavours'...this is a proper technical term btw.
up, down;
top, bottom;
strange, charmed.
Theoretically there maybe 2 more...glossy and matte
So, scientists discovered so many new things that they run out of scientificaly sounding words for them? :)

Basically - yes.

Just because it's science doesn't mean it has to have a fancy long word. The general principle is K.I.S.S. - keep it simple, stupid. A good example is the process during which an object is stretched and torn apart when entering a black hole - spaghettification.

Also fun facts about them - you can't really separate them because of the sheer amount of energy it would take. This kind of "connection" between them is called quark confinement.

Quarks have colour (red, green, blue), which wouldn't really be visible unless they were trillions of times larger.

They have a counterpart with an opposite spin, charge and colour, called an antiquark. Antiquarks can have "anti-colour".

If quarks and antiquarks collide they annihilate.
