Groucho's Fact Hunt


Fritz Spiegl fled with his family from Austria in 1939. He taught himself the flute, and won a place at the Royal Academy of Music.

He becmae Principal Flautist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra for more than 10 years, before hearing damage forced him to stand down.

He arranged the Z-Cars theme:



And the Radio 4 UK theme:



And he wrote Lern Yerself Scouse:

Sadly, he had a season ticket at Anfield.

He died suddenly in 2003 in Liverpool, eating Sunday lunch with his wife and friends

I'm sure he lived in Princes Park next door to my school. One of the big houses in Windermere Terrace.

Couple of famous Evertonians in that first clip.
 
Mark Sheridan, the music hall singer who made "I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside" famous, shot himself in Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow.

Presumably because he wasn't beside the seaside??
