@Kev The Ratbear pelt trader middlemen in 17-18 century Europe were known as bearskin jobbers. Their tendency to sell pelts they had not yet bought (in the hope/anticipation future prices [when they actually took possession] would have fallen,) is where the stockmarket term 'bears' comes about. If 45% of the Med's coastline is shared with Africa then it looks like Africa's coastline is much greater. I suspect that it is a lot less than 45%.
