Groucho's Fact Hunt

The sun is actually very very loud, we can't hear it because the vacuum of space doesn't allow the sound to travel. If space was full of air, we would be able to hear the sun at about 125 decibels, which is somewhere between the discomfort and pain threshold of humans, just below standing next to a jet that is taking off.
Is that at the distance we are, or standing next to it if it were possible?

It also talks in theaters.

Why barm cakes is the correct term

In the days of old, when there were actual trades like butcher, baker, Sky dish fitter and all that, all those tradesmen benefited from echother. When brewers brewed beer, or whiskey for that matter, the foam at the top (the barm) was collected as it was a source of yeast, and sold to the bakers for bread.

The bakers then used this "barm" to rise the bread, and along the line their soft rolls were known as barm cakes.

Case closed.

Look up the Banach-Tarski theorem.

Basically it says that there is a way of decomposing a solid sphere in 3D space such that you can then make two identical copies of that sphere.

Very complicated... I can't prove it. Interesting though ;)

Interesting.

*is anyone else pretending to understand this?

It is a paradox, sort of like Zeno's arrow. It is an artifact of the gaps in our mathmatics and not a practical application of anything.

We all know what a black hole is, they are formed when a whole lotta mass collapses in on itself creating something that we don't actually know what's going on. All we know is that they are normally found in the center of galaxies, there is one at the center of our galaxy. The singularity of a black hole is the point where all of our maths/physics breaks down and the infinite gravity eats up all that comes into contact with it.

One of the smallest we know of has a singularity about the size of Manhatten and contains the mass of about 4 of our Suns.

An average sized black hole has a singularity about the size of Mars and contains the mass of about 1000 suns.

One of the biggest we know of has a singularity several times the size of our solar system and the mass of 200 billion Suns. Basically it's well big.

In Alaska it is illegal to whisper in someone’s ear while they’re moose hunting.
The bat is the only mammal that can fly.
The only mammals to undergo menopause are elephants, humpback whales and human females.
A tarantula spider can survive for more than two years without food.
The flamingo can only eat when its head is upside down.
The dumbest dog in the world is the Afghan hounds. (That explains Robbie Savage)
The very first bomb that the Allies dropped on Berlin in World War Two hit an elephant.
A mole can dig a tunnel 300 feet long in just one night.
