Groucho's Fact Hunt

….on 26th Nov 1866 the cargo ship, Elizabeth Beckham was shipwrecked in Liverpool Bay leading to the deaths of all onboard and 2 people onshore.

The next day several ‘puncheons’ of Rum were found washed up at Hoylake. There was chaos at New Brighton where 200 people fought over the washed up rum. Women were seen to pass out after drinking rum from their boots and policeman dragged them to safety. ‘Rum Galore’.

So that's where a "shoey" originated.

Was told the other night that gypsies originated from India. As they spread across Europe they claimed that they had actually hailed from Egypt. I guess that this made them more 'acceptable'. Apparently the fact that they were believed to be 'Egyptians' is where the word 'Gypsies' derived from.

Another Welsh street name in Liverpool….. I’m sure the city is more Welsh than english.

Roughly translated, Rhiwlas would be blue hill …. Or blue slope/hillside
Bill Cosby.gifThe absolute cheek in assuming that they named the street after the Welsh word, when it's a known fact that 'Rhiwlas' is also a Swahili word, that they use for describing a woman as an 'Absolute Slapper'.

Sometimes Kurt... 🙄
