The Germans are thinking as much about the semis as they are the two previous rounds. I suspect they'll take their chances with Denmark/Serbia, Spain, and Portugal rather than chance Italy/Croatia, England, and France.

Of course, all of this is moot if we get a few surprises.

To be honest, I suspect going out to Spain in the last 8 would be considered more acceptable than going out to England.

It says something about what he's thinking, and I'm not sure it's anything good. The real nightmare scenario is having to replace three against Spain, after they pick up a second in navigating the round of 16.

I, for one, want the manager navigating the tournament rather than domestic media and the federation. I would sit one of the players on a card. The risks aren't worth the prospective gains.
