You haven't watched many international tournaments so - or you need to take off your England-tinted glasses. You are ridiculously invested in that Italian side and that freakish plague-ridden tournament. They will be remembered as much for their World Cup failures as the Euro win. That is a fact. They weren't a patch on previous Italian sides and that squad was found out by North Macedonia a few months later. A glamourous Greece.
I'm not a particular England fan, I quite like this version more than others, I really enjoyed that Italy team and was delighted they won a memorable tournament after nearly tow years of empty stadium football, it was an absolute festival and brought me more joy than any previous tournament.

You have a weird slant on them, false truths about the longest unbeaten run in international football all being all friendlies, blaming that regime for failures they had no part in and relating them to this new (and very different) regime. They had some quality such as Veratti, Jorginho, Chiesa, Bonnuci, Chellini and the wonderfully unique Spinazolla, nowhere near previous vintages but a really well coached team that was fun to watch. Making bad faith arguments about a great victory for them that doesn't hold up when analysed is silly, holding onto to and getting angry about such a short lived and one off innocuous side is quite davek-ly strange.

I think he's trying to yank a few England fan's chains y'know.

I loved the way they played in the semi-final and final. I thought they were excellent against Belgium, played them off the park. Chiesa was my player of the tournament. But their failures to make the World Cups either side of that win diminishes that generation of players. It looks like a freaky win in that bigger picture context. The unbeaten run doesn't mitigate that when so many of those games were friendlies, Nations League matches, or qualifiers for a tournament they didn't make, and is riddled by multiple matches against Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, San Marino, Armenia, and Finland.

It's not a bad faith argument to judge that generation negatively based on their failure to qualify for 2018 and 2022. The night they failed to beat Sweden in November 2017 and failed to qualify for that World Cup, they fielded Bonucci, Chiellini, Florenzi, Jorginho, and Immobile - all central to the 2021 squad. Among the subs were Donnarumma, Belotti, and Insigne. Verrati was injured.

My point is that while they played an excellent tournament, the generation itself was poor by Italian standards. That's not a controversial point of view.

I guess visit to Vatican and Pope blessing before this tournament had opposite effect,
old Argentinian probably secretly cursed us. Maybe you Protestants from the north were right about Catholic Church.

But anyway its deserved, 2 games in the row goal in last seconds, meh.
Must win game and we started without a striker, just for [Poor language removed] like that we deserve nothing.

I felt sorry for Croatia last night. Obviously, any side that concedes last-second equalisers in two successive matches deserves to leave, but I thought they were a better side than Italy. Fine margins. Will the coach stay on?

Almost certainly will stay unfortunately.
Only second successive failure (WC 2026) will make him leave.
Also judging by his words post-game even Modric probably wont leave, gonna be 41 in 2 years and you can almost certainly expect him to play in World Cup 2026 (if we qualify).

Oh God, they have given Paddy and Molly their own TV show.

Have you seen any of it yet?

It's car crash telly.

It's so bad it turns into something not far off being good.

That fat headed Kopite Pimblett is all (and more) you could hope for.

I'm onto episode three and it's all been.... "lad, lad, lad, lad, lad...knoworrameanlikelad.....innit lad....lad, lad, lad, lad....going to sausage him lad....lad, lad, lad, lad...I stoved his head in lad, lad, lad".

Molly is sound, but I dont think I could listen to Paddy the bellend speak for more than 2seconds.
