When you look back at it, Roberto had, basically, one great victory as Belgium manager - beating Brazil in 2018. If you were to be generous, you could include the win over Portugal at Euro 2020 too. These were his only clutch results - getting through against similar or better opposition where the alternative was going home.

Meanwhile, the great Guy Thys had multiple clutch results in his storied runs to the 1980 European Championship final and 1986 World Cup semi-final. The win over Spain at Euro '80 (and the draw against hosts Italy in a hostile Stadio Olimpico which eliminated the Italians and took the Belgians to the final) stand next to the sensational opening match victory over Maradona and Argentina in 1982, the qualification victories over Platini's France and the neighbouring Netherlands, and the superb 1986 wins over the USSR and Spain. He was still at it in beating the Uruguayans 3-1 at Italia '90 before falling, unluckily, to England in the last 16. Thys had his team in tournaments when, often, only one team qualified (such as to and at Euro 80 and to Euro 84). That 1982 World Cup qualification group with the Belgians, French, Dutch, and Liam Brady's Irish side was one of the all-time great qualification contests.

We won't mention the 1986 World Cup play-off win over Gullit and van Basten.

Roberto doesn't hold a candle. Even in a wind-up.

Yes but DID HE BEAT GIBRALTAR 8-0??????

The Belgian FA needs a clear out too. Imagine wasting the best group of players you've ever had and are likely to have for a very long time on Roberto Friggin Martinez.

Look, he's sorry. He's sorry he only gave Everton one season where they scored, played and won like then 80s team and not three.

He's sorry that even in the 2nd and 3rd seasons he was here he got us easily enough to midtable and into two cup semi finals.

Please accept his apologies.

72 points....a tally this club hasn't sniffed for the 9 seasons since it happened...and wont get near for another two decades....the manager who achieved this is ridiculed by people who wanted Ronald 'kin Koeman.

It's just too funny.

If Belgium’s greatest manager of all time could’ve masterminded a heroic point against *checks notepad* Morocco, then Lukaku’s misses in today’s game wouldn’t have put them out.
The last time I checked Morocco won their group. Over 2018 finalist and semi-finalist.
