When you look back at it, Roberto had, basically, one great victory as Belgium manager - beating Brazil in 2018. If you were to be generous, you could include the win over Portugal at Euro 2020 too. These were his only clutch results - getting through against similar or better opposition where the alternative was going home.
Meanwhile, the great Guy Thys, had multiple clutch results in his runs to the 1980 European Championship final and 1986 World Cup semi-final. The win over Spain at Euro '80 (and the draw against hosts Italy in a hostile Stadio Olimpico which eliminated the Italians and took the Belgians to the final) stand next to the sensational opening match victory over Maradona and Argentina in 1982, the qualification victories over Platini's France and the neighbouring Netherlands, and the sensational 1986 wins over the USSR and Spain. He was still at it in beating the Uruguayans 3-1 at Italia '90 before falling, unluckily, to England in the last 16. Thys had his team in tournaments when, often, only one team qualified (such as to and at Euro 80 and to Euro 84). That 1982 World Cup qualification group with the Belgians, French, Dutch, and Liam Brady's Irish side was one of the all-time great qualification contests.
Roberto doesn't hold a candle. Even in a wind-up.
