Guess who’s going to Prague

Prague is superb though. I stayed there many moons ago in a place called the Czech Inn. The barman/chef/owner of the establishment gave us his homemade rum/gin/vodka/deathjuice and I puked my guts up. Also got fined on the spot twice by two unscrupulous ticket inspectors. Always validate your ticket when you get on the effing tram

And don't forget that the tickets are for a period of time rather than a journey. The coppers/inspectors are not averse to pinging tourists quite excessively.

No, you get a ticket before boarding that you stamp as you get on in the machines. They usually last for an hour or three, and you can use them on any public transport for that duration.

If you're staying around Old Town though it's all walkable. The city itself is very flat other than the hill up to the Castle.

What are you hoping to see whilst there Bryan?
Just been the beer museum, probably get the hop on hop off thing, they are usually my preferred method of exploring. Any recommendations off the beaten track?

Depends what you're after really. Cafe Slavia is somewhere we go on every trip as it's a nice, traditional Viennese style cafe. You could also try the St Cyril and Methodius church crypt if you wanted a bit of history. It's where the guys who assasinated Heydrich were holed out when the Nazis found them. It's not far from Charles square, so reasonably central but it was quiet when we went there. Not sure if the John Lennon wall is still there or not. Some twit painted over it a few years ago. It's on the other side of Charles Bridge.

If you want somewhere interesting in the evening, you could do worse than the Cross Club in Prague 7 - http://www.crossclub.cz/en/contact/

I'd also avoid the tourist places for food. Czech cuisine is pretty straightforward - usually dumplings and meat. There's a great place that all the locals go to (you won't see a tourist in it), but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. If it comes to mind I'll let you know.

I almost had a physical fight with one of them but had to accept I was gamed. Real shakedown merchants, but I guess they have to make their bread somehow

A couple of cousins are coppers in Prague. There is a certain mentality to a lot of them. Probably a throw back to the communist era, as most of the police chiefs remain from that time so there's a strange culture. It could be worse though. I mean you're white for a start.
