2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

His goal was great. He at least tried to create in the second half.

But overall he was abysmal. Needed him to step up and didn't.

We still haven't got someone to get the ball into him (or the other forward players for that matter) from deep. If he's crap when Gomes comes in and if Gomes is managing to find him, then we have the options to change.

Can't be having the 'drop him deeper' shouts, though. He's not cut out for it - Sunday proved that.

dropping him to the bench won’t address the inadequate partnership of Gana/Schneiderlin mate. Especially at home. To be fair we have to look at the balance of the whole team and what can be done to improve us offensively.

Like it or not siggy alongside Gana opens up more possibility without losing much defensive ground. We will press better and attack with more purpose. I know siggy is never ideal, but that’s what we have now isn’t it.

Unfortunately I don't think this is the case.

Gylfi deeper doesn't work for us on the rare occasions it's happened and it doesn't work Iceland when they've tried it either. He needs to be up the pitch, but he hasn't got the skillset to drop back and drive with the ball.

That means we need a player who can get it into him. Schneiderlin can't/won't and Gana is dross at that. Gomes needed quickly.

I think he could play deeper in a flat three, perhaps with Gueye and Davies (until Gomes is back) or Schneiderlin and Davies.

But not in a two. Leaves us exposed.

Seems to be a scapegoat in here for some reason, but he isn't as bad as many of you think and has been in our top 2 players so far this season. His fee and the Barkley-lovers will always see what they want to see.
Played very well against Southampton and was also good against Bournemouth. Didn't do much before being taken off at Watford after going down to 10, and equally anonymous against Huddersfield.

Sunday, apart from the goal, there was one sublime pass through to Kenny after linking up with Lookman. Otherwise was quiet again. His set pieces were very poor and I was crying out for Bernard to be given a chance.

I think it's fair to say that we need more from him than he's given over the last 2 games if he's to be our main threat provider. That's not being at all OTT or making him a scapegoat. It's got nothing to do with Ross Barkley who never turned into the player we wanted him to be anyway. It's just the way it is. If he turned in performances like the Southampton game more often than not then I assure you nobody would be on here complaining about him.

Basically, It's not his fault, it's everyone else's. His ideal position changes every week, and now hes not winger, a 10,a striker or a centre mid. We need to invent a new position for him to play. Any decent manager would figure that out and build the side around him.
If we are going to build a side around anyone it certainly won't be Gylfi, it will be Richarlison.

I can't wait for him to get dropped to the bench never to return.

He offers absolutely nothing in open play.

Coward is the word for him. I wanted him to be amazing and he's not even been good, just OK.

This is him being found out at Spurs all over again. Every week he just turns up and does sod all except run about a bit.

How he's made a career playing #10 when he can't really beat a man, pick a pass, and start attacking moves is beyond me.

He hasn't fit any style of play from the 4 managers he's played under here. It doesn't matter what position he plays, he's still mostly ineffective every match. It doesn't matter who he plays with for us, he is still going missing.

I didn't miss him when he got injured last year.
