2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Good players should elevate the team and shouldn't need the team to elevate them.

Richarlison completely exposed him when he came in because he had a major impact from the off and looked like a proper player despite playing with the same players.

Richarlison was in the same team as Gylfi against Southampton and that was Sigurdsson’s best game for us. I think he got MoTM, but I can’t be certain, which would prove my theory that he’ll be better with the first choice players around him.

It’s no surprise that a player brought in to create, can’t create if the players in front of him don’t make decent runs and the players behind him don’t get the ball to him.

So literally one game. Meanwhile every game richarlison has played in he's been head and shoulders our best player, same can be said of Theo, he came in last January and was our best player from the off. These players make their teammates better, sigurdson needs his team mates to make him better

Really? what has happened to his own play? why does he need help? Should ask the question what skills does he have without assistance? What as an individual can he bring to our team? If there any negatives then clearly he should be another for the exit door idc as he is not good enough.

I reckon if we ever got an offer from another team Brands would take it tbh, none of Silva's previous teams have ever played with a no10 type in them.

When I look back to players we signed prior to Silva/Brands I cringe. What did those previous managers see in some of them? Okay some have been offloaded but only to come back at season end meaning we are stuck until their contracts expire. That is the legacy left by RM,RK and BFS.

I've seen/heard a few people say he was out best player in that game, and i wonder what game they were watching. Save for the running round and the 1 2 with Walcott, I don't remember him doing a great deal else. I thought Richarlison was our best player in that game, followed by Walcott, who also scored, had a goal disallowed, and could/should have scored at least 2 more, including the exchange with Sigurdsson.

It might have been Sigurdssons best game for us, but that still doesn't mean he was our best player, he was just slightly less anonymous than usual.

At last someone grasps the sort of player he is.

He can't play in midfield 2 or wide in 3.

The only role he can play is no.10 and I question if he has the creativity to play that role in the way in which say Beardsley played it.

His delivery from dead balls was supposed to be excellent but he hasn't produced anything of that quality in the time time with us.

So yes he can play no.10 but is he really good enough?

He isn't our biggest problem but definately not the answer either.

Ask yourself this how much would we get on the ( inflated ) market for him now? I suspect his value will have dropped considerably and we would do well to get £25 mill

Every time I hear the word Beardsley I cry , still can’t beleive we sold him when he was happy to stay, FOR 1M?

Not sure you can really say he expects others to work for him; puts the most effort in on the pitch.

People will tell you that he covers most ground because he’s constantly sprinting way from the ball . He’s a hard worker and has a lot of technical ability , but he needs runners around him.

Yes, yes a thousand times yes. He needs to drop deeper to help progress the ball up front. Stop occupying the same space as our striker and helping defend.

With respect, I absolutely disagree.

What West Ham did on Sunday is flood the centre of the pitch. The last thing you want our "10" doing is removing himself from the congestion. Instead, we should have used the width far more than we did because, when good balls are playing into the box, Gylfi - just like he did for the goal - is there as an option alongside Tosun.

Instead what we did is try and have Gana thread little passes into the congestion which he just isn't capable of doing. We also missed sitter after sitter.

Listen to the commentary from Carragher at the weekend "Everton have got to get Gylfi Sigurdssen into this game". Not, Sigurdssen has to maraud the pitch looking for it and dictating from in front of the CBs.

We don't do that and, on paper, the only way I can see us effectively and consistently getting the ball to arguably our best player is with the introduction of Gomes.

Because if that doesn't work, we really are screwed in the centre of the pitch.

Literally this.

If we had put away some of those chances, then "pundits" would be singing his praises
