I love analytics.

Every issue mentioned above is taken into account in modern analytics. If you tap a pass to Messi on the halfway line and he beats 10 men and scores you will be awarded an assist in stats, likewise if you beat 10 men then pass to Niasse who skies it you won't. But in analytics your pass to Niasse would be counted as a much bigger chance than your pass to Messi.

Analytics told me exactly what type of player Sigurdsson was, and exactly why he wasn't what we needed when 90% of posters thought he was a playmaking #10.

The main problem was always going to be his lack on involvement, his lack of ball carrying ability and his need to be surrounded by passers.

Agreed. Chances created from open play is much better metric than assists are to see a player's playmaking capabilities.

I knew he wasn't a playmaking 10 (not in a 'blow my own trumpet way'). He isn't a Barkley, he isn't a ball-carrier.

He's someone who thrives off good movement and quick interplay.

He hasn't done what he's good at enough for us, and I won't dispute that.

Whoa. A playmaking 10 does not = ball carrier. I'm not sure why some of you are OBSESSED with someone carrying and holding the ball.

I'm not obsessed at all, mate. You've misunderstood.

I said when we signed him if we wanted a Ross replacement, we were barking up the wrong tree. It's not Gylfi's game.

He's excellent at quick interplay and getting into the final third and having an impact.

But, that does mean he needs to have players behind him to get the ball into him - which is half of the problem.

When he does get it in dangerous areas, I think it's fair to say he hasn't been dangerous enough often enough, though.

It is quite remarkable how so many of our players need a full moon, celestial alignment and world peace to happen all at the same time for them to be even semi-decent

We can’t afford to have him in the team if he doesn’t want to take more responsibility. Say what you want about Davies, Tosun and Gana, but they don’t go hiding. More often than not, Sigurdsson isn’t getting involved in the game. He is the weakest link by far when his set pieces are off as they have been lately.

The TV pundits still trot out the old hype about Siggy as he lines up another set piece but the truth is he's not producing crosses and free kicks. So far, he's been better on the end of them!
