“Does nothing but then gets a few goals”

Call me an extremist but a game is 90 minutes, and I’d consider bagging a brace rather more like doing something than nothing. Wish some of our other players did ‘nothing’ like Gylfi.

Let's not over do it. He was terrible until he scored a toey. Then terrible. Then scored another toey.

A striker gets away with it. A creative midfielder doesn't.

Criticism of him at the point he missed the pen was fine because he was very very bad. But the glee from some when he missed the penalty was a bit weird.

My word I did not like Cleverley, but when he lobbed that fluke of a header into the Geordies net in the 94th minute it still made my Christmas.

He was crap, missed a pen. BUT....

He came back with two lovely goals and that showed bottle. Far more bottle than we usually see with this squad. He needs to improve his general open play of course, but I'm a big fan of seeing players respond by making amends for their own errors.

He wasn't crap before the pen miss though.

I don't think any of them had a good game before HT, but Gylfi and Richarlison both made some good darting runs and they both carried that on - to more impact - after the break.

His pen was poor, but like you said he bounced back and after that he was superb.

Those finishes were class. He's our top scorer now. He's creating chances - his corners were all really strong today, as well - and scoring goals.

He wasn't terrible though. He wasn't great before his pen miss, but after the penalty miss he was excellent.

That pass he played for Kenny in the build-up to the first goal was superb. We've not got anybody else with the vision or technique to do it.

People just have the blinders on to him doing good stuff because they're convinced he's a set-piece merchant.

No one else in our team can score that goal on their weak foot like he did. And first goal was always going to be big today.

I don't see this system as best for him because he is not a rapid counter attacker. At home yes I think it works OK because we're having to press more ourselves but in away games I see why people think he's not doing enough.

But for people to say he's woeful or biggest waste of space at the club etc is way over the top. And I don't understand someone's physche if they want someone in our team to miss a penalty because it will make them relevant on the internet.

Not really. I've given praise to players like Martina when it's due so it's nothing like that.

He's just a very limited player who has great attributes in his long range shooting and set pieces in my view.
