I've said for years our biggest issues stem from midfield, both in defence and attack. I want him to get on the ball more and dictate the play like someone of his quality should be able to. His work rate off the ball has never been in question but we didn't pay such a large fee to have someone run the channels. Hopefully him dropping a bit deeper this game is a precursor for him doing that.

..I just don’t think he’s the ‘dictate the game’ type, his touches per game reflect that but you have to recognise him for the type he is. Lampard was similar in his effectiveness in the top third and willingness to get on the end of things. Effective.

He's not Eggs. Never has been and never will be.

It was fine dropping him back deeper today when they had 10 men, because the space was there.

But he isn't going to be this all-round playmaker. Let him do what he's good at, which is what he did today. Get on the ball in the final third and create.

..that’s exactly what I was saying, he’s not an all around playmaker. He’s very effective at the business end of the pitch.

Yeah I have to agree with you , he’s not the type to dictate the pace of a game or take us from box to box but today and last week illustrates his worth .

Missed your post and Said better than tried to .

I'd never considered Lampard as a player he is similar too, but it is probably as good a comparison as I can think of. Lampard didn't really dictate the tempo of games, but he got about the pitch well, passed it ok and broke play up surprisingly well for an attacking player, as well as being intelligent enough to help the team out when not at his best. He was also one of the most potent finishers between 20-30 yards out and scored goals he had no right too consistently from that range.

Gylfi has all of the attributes to replicate this.
