Yes, looking at it from a medical viewpoint the signs aren't too bad, although there is only a very limited amount you can say now and no firm conclusions at all until after the scans have been taken, there's definitely no chance of being sure now.

The fact that he played on and ran relatively freely for sometime after the injury is a good sign but that's all, and that is even if it was not comfortably or aided by pain killers, but the boot is very likely to be precautionary whatever the extent of the damage.

It's only sensible to avoid putting any unnecessary weight on it and would have been a surprise if he didnt have one. He was the victim of a reckless two footed scythe tackle with both feet off the ground flying into his ankle. A badly swollen ankle is the very minimum that would occur even if there was only superficial bruising, until we get the scans we can not know more.

So really the boot tells us nothing more than we already knew during and after the match. He was the victim of a bad tackle, was able to play on and contribute significantly but is bound to go for scans even if only precautionary ones. The boot is just standard practice with such an injury.

The good thing is he'll miss the internationals whatever now as we'll pull him out even if there's nothing serious.

Doctor, Doctor, I feel like a Wigwam! I think I'm too tense.

Can Jorginho get a retrospective ban for that? As the ref didn’t do anything about it. Obviously Bernard and rudiger are in the clear as even though the ref didn’t see it, he booked them both. But with this, he saw it but didn’t respond to it.

He booked him mate, no retrospective action for a horrible snide challenge when he got bullied off the ball by Sig.

Thing is with the tackle, it wasn’t like he went for the ball and missed. He’d been pulling on him during the run and just couldn’t stop him. It was a proper vindictive little snap wasn’t it.

I like Jorginho as a player, but that was nasty. Straight away you could see it was bad from how he dived in. There's no way that from the angle he was running at he couldn't have dived in with a scissor action. It was a straight red any day of the week.

Shame it's another bad referring decision that's cost us, what makes it worst is the soft decisions we've had against us.

Rest him in the internationals and v Cardiff and get him back for the rest of the season. A front four with Walcott, Bernard in the middle, richy left and tosun up front of bringing in lookman will be enough for a comfortable win.

Surely both the shirt pulling and then the tackle itself both were cardable offences. The referee could easily have given him two bookings. The challenge itself was a red in any case.

The referee's and linesmen are inept and any argument against VAR - a system that holds them all accountable for their decisions - coming in should result in the person putting out said argument being punted into the sun.

Marginal decisions happen. Usually, just through human nature, they might go in the way of the home side if the crowd are on a ref's back etc. It shouldn't happen but it's understandable to a point.

What we've seen this season (not just in our games) is either 100% incompetence, or corruption (which I don't think is the case).

This bunch of officials currently in 'der best league in the world lad' are a proper joke.

I honestly don´t get why he was not subbed. Getting a two footed tackle on the ankle joint in mid run when you´re about to put weight on it is incredibly dangerous. The players will always want to play on, but its the medical team and the manager that must play it safe. How that is not a red is beyond me. What do you need to do to get a red then?
