2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

He was the same at Spurs and Swansea, people get overly excited by his stats and somehow believe that he’s a world class player. He had a 4 or 5 game spell we’re he decided to be be involved and was very good, but that’s just him.

Last year it’s because he was out wide, this year it’s his team mates. If he was sold would he be missed? The answer is clearly no

he makes stuff happen, it's not stats, you just need eyes.

he has quite literally teed up about six sitters this season, all of which have been missed.

Funnily enough I do watch him with my eyes and I said as much 2 years ago when people were clambering for us to buy him in that January window.

Everyone creates chances in that team, is not just Iceland. If got punted he wouldn’t be missed

So you're saying we wouldn't miss our leading chance creator and second-highest scorer.

Okay.

I’d say he’d be easily replaced and it would be for the benefit of team. Remember Toff football is a team a game and not “build a squad around Gylfi to hopefully unlock his full potential” game

But I’m glad his stats are his saviour....once again

I'm not saying build a squad around him. He's just a very good player and to shrug him off as being easily replaced despite him clearly being our best creative outlet is absurd.

We should always be looking for improvements, no doubt, but the fact is that Gylfi creates chances.

Well if you don’t build a squad around him you get a 1-10 player. Which we’ve seen.

He needs this, he needs that, this formation, that formation blah blah blah

He won’t even be talked about in 10 years time, he’ll be as forgettable as his displays

Since he`s been here, we`ve seen a lot more " average / crap from him, than, " good / excellent " from him.

We`re currently seeing " average / crap " again.

The excuses have ran out.

Yep I've gotta say he's has his good spells, been excellent a couple of times but on the main I'd says he's had more average/poor performances than good/excellent performances

He hasn't looked right to me since Chelsea away. Still has it in him to score a goal and pick out a boss pass hence why he's kept in the side. Just a lot of large spells in the game he isn't involved so I can understand where the criticism comes from.

I don't see what he's done so massively wrong in his last few games to warrant the criticism?

He played well v Spurs (the only one who showed up), well v Burnley. He was our only creative outlet v Leicester, despite being poor. He hardly played at Brighton. He didn't have a great game v Lincoln but none of them did.

I don't get it...

Which I agree with. But when he goes looking for the ball, there's a huge gulf with nobody there, and Gylfi isn't someone who has the pace/power to skin three players from deep.

I'm not saying he can't do more, because he can, but there's also nine other outfield players who aren't doing enough as well.

Don't agree with your first point. I'd say he's had a good season. It's reflected by the amount of chances he's created and the amount of goals he's scored.

If Sigurdsson drops deeper to pick up the ball - which has to be what people say by 'he needs to do more', because other than that he is our hardest working player in every category when it comes to running, sprints, distance covered, pressing etc - then another player has to be intelligent enough to drop into space.

If not, you'll just get Gylfi - who has not got the ability to get on the ball on the half-way line and drive past four defenders - sitting alongside a static Gana and a negated Gomes.

He’s still the easy target due to his price tag and the fact that he was kind of seen as the direct replacement for Ross Barkley.

Thing is, as bad as some are claiming he has been, he has still out performed Barkley for goals and assists and is clearly more of a team player than Barkley ever was.

He can’t help the fee paid for him, some can’t get over it though.

Nothing to do with the fee Thomas my good man
