It isn't that he doesn't create chances - we does, he is a good player with good ability - it is how frequently he does it.

He does it a lot less than a lot of players.

Fair enough. I think he creates enough that we should score more from, but I agree that he could do more.

But when you look at our goals, he's involved in the majority.

Embarrassed that he is our record signing.
State of this comment. Disliking him cos he is our record signing? It’s not your money and the chances are it will be someone else next season because that’s the market. He is a good player. I don’t understand our fans turning on good players because they aren’t messi. Yes he has faults but he has a good goal return, he has scored some top quality goals too that have won games from no where, and he is involved in most of our good stuff. Perfect player? Not at all. But more embarrassed by fans than gylfi.

The amount of times he is stood in front of the box, back to goal, asking for one of CMs or CBS to play the ball to his feet, for them to turn to the right or left and okay it sideways is incredible. As far as I can see, he’s often in the right spaces and is confident enough to receive the ball under some pressure to play somebody through, but those who receive the ball at halfway aren’t confident enough to play it to him. It’s often such a simple ball.

Terrible post. Christ.. lol

Sound.

There’s a reason why we don’t play the 433 silva wants to play and it’s sigurdsson.

He can’t play deeper because he doesn’t know how to get on the ball.

He’s a good striker of the ball who works in moments and can win you the match.

But in terms of a creative midfielder who can dictate a game, he’s poor.

Yep that's a very good point, it's a problem for many teams these days. Alot of modern midfielders seem terrified to play these zipped balls through the lines that open up the play and bring players like Gylfi in to games, must be a mental thing, easier to just keep rolling it out to the fullbacks everytime you get it, drives me nuts!!

Iceland scores goals, creates chances and is part of everything we do thats good as a team and yet people still call him all sorts.

You people deserve James McArthur.

Open play expected goals + expected assists

James McArthur 6.28
Gylfi Sigurdsson 5.88

To be fair I'll add caveats to that. Gylfi takes a lot of shots, and is good at long distance shooting which means he probably is underestimated on xG from distance as he is relatively skilled at this.

He is also producing the highest set piece xG+xA in the league.

Basically people who say he is creative from open play but his set pieces are rubbish are wrong. It is the opposite. He is (relative to others in the league) not very dangerous from open play.

In midfielders alone he is 29th most dangerous player (measured by the expected total of goals+assists from his shots and passes) per minute from open play.

4 defenders create more per minute

50 attackers.

In the whole league he is the 82nd most dangerous player from open play.

This doesn't mean he is a rubbish player and will never score, clearly he isn't rubbish and he does score. He is just an average PL player.

The mere fact that are somehow trying to claim James McArthur is a better player instantly voids every single post you will make in the future.
