2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Out of 5 penalties he managed to convert 4 of them, roughly 80%

Missing against Chelsea but scoring on the rebound & missing vs Fulham but scoring 30 seconds later isn't really a wasted goal scoring opportunity is it?

He only really failed to convert his penalty against Watford. We've seen the likes of Messi, Ronaldo & Rooney miss 2-3 penalties in a row & they still take them to this day.

Sigurdsson has never missed two in a row, and even in his current poor form from the spot isn't anywhere near those 3 players during their worst.

Ronaldo missed in the final of the Euro's as well as a Champions League final, yet is one of the best penalty takers in the world currently at 83% while Gylfi is at 81%

He was at 88.5% 6 penalties ago, so even at his worst he's still hovering around the same conversion rate as Ronaldo (arguably the best in the world)

Already explained this in DM. You have no clue what you're talking about, especially considering I told you to combine all 3 categories.

Considering you said football isn't even in your Top 5 favourite sports I doubt you've taken the time to watch any of the players I listed.

If you think Marek Hamsik is only two-footed when it comes to shooting and not passing & crossing then you need to go take a long hard look in the mirror. Most two-footed player I've personally ever seen.

He missed 3 penalties out of 5 mate

His rebound goal vs Chelsea & amazing left footed goal vs Fulham never happens if he doesn't take the penalty in the first place.

He scored directly against United & Burnley.

That means the only penalty that didn't end up getting converted one way or another was the one against Watford.

If you believe that then you will believe anything. Hamsik has 3 good seasons after playing for 13 years in Serie A. He's a fine player by comparing their both footedness or overall ability totally discredits your opinion.

Not sure why you're deviating from the stats here mate, you normally cling to them. He missed 3 penalties according to official stats and our eyes

Sigurdsson scored 13 goals this season.

4 of them are attributed to the fact that he took them from the spot.

Out of 5 goal scoring attempts he managed to score 4 times, even if 'officially' he missed 3.

If he doesn't take any penalties this season then he would finish with 9, so despite missing 3 out of 5 he still scored 4 out of 5 goals from taking penalties.

Aye mate, he missed 3

Take him off penalty duty & he ends the season with 9 goals instead of 13.

4 goals scored strictly because he took penalties, irregardless if he missed 3. The goal against Chelsea was even sweeter after initially having it saved because it technically counted as a goal from open play. He even acknowledged this himself in the post match interview. Really couldn't careless what some random dweebs on a EFC forum think.

Siggy plays for the stats. He’s not assed if we win or lose really.

Considering he's the only player in our team that always plays at his best no matter the circumstance I sincerely doubt that.

When the rest of the team lets us down he's always the one covering distance pressing the opponents & never looks like he gave up. It's a shame his team mates cant say the same.

Keep repeating yourself like a broken record player conspiracy theorist. Nobody is buying it.

He's a midfielder that at times found himself temporarily relieving Richarlison & DCL from their striker duties when they would be out of position.

This is a tactical decision from Silva to hold the formation/symmetry, something we severely lacked last season.

You were just about as clueless back then as you are now. A few weeks ago you were calling for Lookman to displace Sigurdsson. Who cares what you say?

So you dont watch the games...

I'm not sure you watch him either Zat. Certainly not without your Sig hating spectacles on.

Yes he doesn't play as a deep lying midfielder or within the congestion. He also doesn't play as a striker. So you using the "he's a support striker" is seemingly so that he can't be used as a comparator with other midfielders, because he compares so well against them. The truth is though that when we have possession he is the final player in our build up *before* the striker. So he's not getting on the end of things and he's not the final threat. This is proven from the chances he's created for DCL and Walcott, amongst others, all season.

It's unimportant though because even when comparing him to strikers like Firmino and, a little wider, Son, Sig's goal involvement is favourable.

Son - 12 goals, 6 assists
Firmino - 12 goals, 6 assists.

The 75m man Lukaku has 12 goals, 0 assists.

So regardless of ability, Sig has had a fantastic season despite your best efforts to mask your opinion behind barricades of "you can't compare him against this player or that'.

I fully expect your usual "I don't know what you're trying to say / why you're saying it" but that's par for the course with you at times.

He's not Messi like this Ricky fella is making out but he's far better and far more important than you try your best to suggest.

This is exactly my point, I actually commented that he scored 13 goals...its not WOW for a support striker...youve shown others who have the same numbers (from less games).

It would be a great number for a player in midfield like Gomes...but as a support striker not so much.

Im not knocking the amount of goals but im not amazed by it either...

The other point that the stalker was making is that in some games hes had 13 odd touches...theres a reason for that...

...he disappears :o
