2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Once we have finished picking on Gylfi until we all submit to the "he's crap" ethos pervading our fans, who will be next?

He's exactly the player we overpaid for, nothing more, nothing less. It is no co-incidence that Richarlson has hit the ground running, on the end of some decent passes. Same for the whole attacking threat, but there's them that just won't see it, or won't give credit for it.

I guess the difference is I want to see the good things and I'm happy to overlook the bad.

Sadly a considerable bulk of our fanbase do not understand football, they think its like Fifa and only the 90 pace players can perform.

Personally ive stopped defending Iceland, I know for a fact hes a footballer and without question 1 of our most important players, if people cant see that then its pointless trying to convince them anything different.

Now I just need to sit back and watch him carry us to glory.

He was poor up until the substitution against Wolves. He was also poor in the pre-season gams he played, but given he returned late after the WC he possibly was just lacking a bit of sharpness.

But he was also well below par for the majority of last season, especially given the amount we paid for him.

He was excellent Saturday, and if that's the level of performance we can expect from him most weeks then I doubt very much you'll have many, if any, detractors on here. But let's not pretend that a lot of the criticism he has received since coming here has not been justified.

But he came in as our marque signing, our main man, yet he was anything but, he hid too often and as stated above we didn't miss him in the slightest when he wasn't playing. Compare that to Theo who came in and was straight away our best player and we missed him when he got injured. And now richarlson, who's come in and straight away been one of our best and most influential players

Would be interesting to see how much of an influence and how his stats would look if he would have a run of games where he was taken off set - pieces.

Can’t expect a playmaker to do much in that Koeman side or the Allardyce one which followed.

Yet Rooney managed too and he was blowing out his ass most of the time.

And even in the Swansea side when he was supposedly at his best he wasn't anything special from open play.

He will be of use though if he can consistently play at the standard he did against Southampton but that's been his biggest problem, the consistency

With Rooney gone and Richarlison signed to play the wide forward role. Sigurdsson has started both of Everton’s league games as the central advanced midfielder in the 4-2-3-1. This weekend he created more chances than any other Premier League player, and has created 38% of Everton’s chances so far.

TBF he did indeed tie for most chances created this past weekend, but most came from set pieces and not open play. The flick to Walcott was sexy, though.
