2019/20 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Mate common , he dropped DCL9, included Walcott, brought back Bernard, played sifibe , had Gomes and Davies in for Morgan and Delph and dropped siggy . Wasn’t just a single change, he changed half the team.

it's all about opinions mate, but look at it this way, the difference Iwobi made in that Sigurdsson role, Iwobi was always looking for the ball, he's got pace, his movement is way better than Sigurdsson's, he was always looking too move the ball quicker.

Sigurdsson is slow, static, and when we breakaway and the ball come to him we literally stop in our tracks because he just holds it up too long.

Also, it's not as if Bernard, Walcott and Richarlison are new players who have only just come in, and Sigurdsson has never played with them, and as I say, the difference was In that final third, we looked so much more dangerous, quicker, and there was more urgency in our play in that final third.

The other big difference, Iwobi did something that Sigurdsson never does, he looked like wanted to take the game by the scruff of the neck and dictate it.

That is the first time since Silva has been here that we have played with a high tempo for 90 minutes . Like you say it’s all about opinions but I still think soggy has a lot of quality and if he was playing yesterday I think he would have played well.

Mate the whole team was different today not just siggy. Not just siggy , the entire centre midfield was changed the wingers were changed the striker was changed as was the RB. This is in addition to soggy being dropped, out siggy in that team today and he could have played a blinder and scored a hat trick , nobody will know. But saying him being dropped was the reason for the improved performance can’t really be done as the whole team was changed. I still think he’s quality and would have bet my house on him scoring the Iwobi chance

I'm not saying he's the reason he played better being on the bench but we did play better without him, can't change a winning team who played that well mate

Had no doubt he would score as soon as he had the ball in that position.

But it's good he didn't start and doesn't deserve to start next week.

However, people will act like he was our only issue. He wasn't at all.

The entire frontline looked better yesterday and in the main that was because Richarlison is a far better striker than DCL. His movement is so much better. Always looking to spin and drag their players out of position. It opens up so much space.

we have a number of players who can/have played well in the #10 role, each one will do it a bit different. The manager needs to pick which one to play in which game depending on what he thinks will be needed

Iwobi played very well. If we're gonna play 4-2-3-1 then we need pace in that role and yesterday was a proper 4-2-3-1 as opposed to the 4-2-2-1-1 we normally end up playing.

The annoyance is there's no reason we couldn't have tried to play that system against Sheff Utd, with Gyfli deeper instead of Schneiderlin for example.

Anyway, for now having a player of his quality to bring on is fine. Like I've said, once he had it in that position yesterday I had no doubt he'd score.

The argument could be though that that proves the point, I think that was only the second time since silvas been here that gylfis not started in the league and we've not looked that fluid or pacy in the final third in a long time.

Imo that front 4 we had out yesterday are by far our best attacking quartet, they all compliment each other and look on the same wavelength

I dont think siggy being dropped was the catalyst to our success. I think Siggy with those improved options and movement around him would have excelled today.

I agree every single player should keep their place after that performance , even if we conceded from the corner and it finished 1-1 the performance was so much better than anything this season that it would be stupid to change it. I was originally replying to a post that said , and I’m paraphrasing here “ siggy dropped and we play better” I was just pointing out that literally half the outfield team where changed.

Our best attacking quartet ? Walcott played well yesterday but that is most certainly not anywhere close to his usual level of performance, he has been dog tang for extended periods of time. You said the argument could be that it proves the point? That’s like when people were saying that starting DCL9 was the reason for our decent results against the “ big” clubs last season, it’s not simply one player , siggy could have played yesterday and I think he would have looked very good with the team performance last night

Yep ^^^

Gylfi is no worse a player than Walcott or indeed Bernard.

The players decided to turn up as the manager who they love as he's a soft touch was on the verge of the sack and God forbid had that happened we might have gotten a replacement in to kick the players up the backside week in week out.

Clubs a boys club- we will revert to type in a few weeks if not next weekend once the pressure is off regardless of if Gylfi is on the pitch or not.

Im of the opinion our attack appears more fluid and dangerous with a pacey attack. Iwobi suits the other attackers better. Wouldn't mind seeing Gylfi in Gomes' position next time Gomes is injured. Think they have very similar skill sets.
