2019/20 Gylfi Sigurdsson

I say Gylfi is a top player but I’m very aware of his limitations and flaws and I think they become much more apparent because he plays so far forward. I think he’d produce them moments of brilliance on a much more regular basis if he wasn’t playing basically up front.

I disagree that top players can adapt to any scenario too. Everyone knows Kante is a top player but he struggled to adapt at being pushed further up the pitch by Sarri last season. He still did a job but he was being played in a way that didn’t get the best out of his skillset. Just because you’ve got a top player doesn’t mean you can play them out of position and expect the same results.

If you have a player, like Sigurdsson, who is brilliant at playing through balls to our quick forwards then you don’t want that player playing further up the pitch than them.

Has Sigurdsson ever played out of position though? His position seems to be pretty much where he has played his whole career.

Kante was asked to totally change his style of play from a midfield destroyer to a play maker.

I really don't mind Sigurdsson, he is fine, he does annoy me though when he seems to get caught by surprise when a pass comes his way.

The good thing this season is that Siggy has got competition so he has to play better to keep his place - maybe Iwobi and Bernard could be switched round to replace him at no.10 if he 's not delivering the goods

He’s basically playing as a second striker, he’s too often our furthest forward player. With the way he’s being used he’s quite easily replaceable.

Whether it’s Siggurdsson or the system, we don’t seem to be able to impose ourselves deep on a team. It’s all counter attack or bust.

I honestly have on idea what on earth you all are trying to say.

Did they show Pep's training ground? Pep's attack is very different at Man City that it was with Barca and his whole zone 14 obsession. With Man City it's all about the half spaces. His training and passing sequences are pretty oriented around those spaces.
Is a half space a really small space or something different

there is a video on here that shows the number of chances and good chances at that wasted by Walcott and DCL that were created by Siggy.
With a proper goalscorer in front of him his assist tally could double.
He plays so far forward because DCL cant be trusted to finish chances in and around the box whereas Siggy can
Put a decent goalscorer in front of him and he will drop deeper

You can't expect strikers to finish every chance. The bigger problem with DCL especially is not getting into the positions in the first place and that's what Kean will hopefully fix. Sigurdsson and Bernard should benefit.
