2019/20 Gylfi Sigurdsson

He's one who should have never played again after the FA Cup derby, just like Schneiderlin should have been done following the training ground incident with Unsworth and Mirallas..

The club brings these situations on itself.

I make you right, but I do wonder if it's problematic moving people on who are on such high wages?

It's a fair point, but it sometimes seems as though it's harder to lose a reputation than gain one in football, which may explain how players who you'd think no one would touch with a barge pole manage to pick up new contracts year on year. Even raffle winners like Niasse and Sandro have had loan moves during their time here, so I'm sure that Sigurdsson's agent would be able to find some way of getting him a move if it was made clear that he would no longer be considered a first team player.

I've long believed that Everton suffer from not enforcing the same kind of standards as the better teams, which, like many of our problems, I'd say is a leftover from the Kenwright regime and its sole policy of avoiding costs at all costs.

Seems it. Check out this corker from Charlie "I've clearly never watched an Everton game" Nicholas.

On the other side, they are strong going forwards. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a handful, while Gylfi Sigurdsson is a decent footballer and a creative spark in midfield.

Haha - he's got another three years to live off his Swansea highlight reel, easily.

They still identify Everton's overlapping full-backs as the main attacking threat, as though they haven't noticed that Baines and Coleman have been finished for years.

I think with Niasse and Sandro, we are probably paying a large chunk of their wages as well (and Niasse turned down a loan move at the end). I suppose the question would be, would we be prepared to do the same for Sigurdsson?

It's not based on anything, but my personal belief is, that when managers come in, pressure is put upon them, whether overt or covert to play certain players. That a lad like Sigurdsson, is on x amount and cost y amount so you have to play him. I firmly believe that.

If you're Brands now, and Ancelotti comes and says to you, I can't work with the player, then surely you make a big call, and tell him he will be training on his own etc, and hope that ensures he lowers his demands for a transfer? Koeman did similar with Niasse, but got slaughtered for it and probably the wrong lesson was learnt at the time. It was undoubtedly a nasty thing to do, but Koeman, who's operated at elite football knows how it works. As a club, we appear to nice in all sorts of aspects.

The derby game at Anfield remains a big problem for me. It remains a big problem for me that Delph was getting into arguments with fans and offering them to come down to the ground, and he's meant to be a senior player setting an example. That Sigurdsson is still here and captain. I do wonder how boxed in we are and how saleable they are.

What I'll say about Gylfi, is he looks like a lad who knows he has no future here. I hope thats the case. Strangely he'd probably do ok at Sheffield United.

Well that's not exactly wrong given Digne has set up the most goals and our midfield is a very sad joke.

When we're all finally allowed back to grounds, @mikeh72
