...which was exactly my reaction to the amount of effort we put into chasing his signature in the first place.

Not really had any cause to revise that opinion since.

he scored 13 goals the previous season before last, has come up with a couple of worldies whilst at Everton, his debut goal in Europe and away at Leicester.

of course that all gets forgotten at Everton when your performances drop and the lynch mob turn on you.

You are only as good as your current form of course and based on that he won’t be a regular starter when we get better in.
But at least he has contributed something over the last couple of seasons, which is more than can be said for others.

Well yeah, of course two good goals get forgotten when they’re sandwiched in the middle of about 80-odd non-performances.

yes Mike, when all around him have been outstanding as welllol

your hard on for hating Gylfi is every bit as cringey as Daves love of Martinez.

But Sigurdsson has been one of those players that’s been garbage as well and this is his thread?

Your refusal to criticise him ever is even more cringey than Dave’s love of Martinez.

True, he had one decent season with us in 18/19 when he started nearly every game. Gone badly off the boil last season tho and you would imagine soon to be a fringe player with new signings coming in.

this is more like it and something I have already alluded to above.

the hate and relentless posting the other crap about him being so hated etc really is the work of absolute whoppers.

If we sign Allan, Ducoure and James... a big if still... then it is hard to see where Sigurdsson fits in.
The three names linked with being bought are all experienced players and two of them have already worked with the manager... they are being bought to play , not sit on the bench.

I don't think CA dislikes Gylfi, he usually plays him , has even asked him to play out of position and has given him the armband at times. I am not sure if much can be read into this because I think Carlo is a manager that tries to work with players and tries to build their confidence even if he doesn't see a long term future for them. Bolasie and Besic have been included as part of the squad even though you would think they do not have a future at the club.

The future for Gylfi depends on which of his targets we sign , if any, in particular James.

A reasonable goal return overall was what I meant. He has dropped off a cliff this last season, even if he's been asked to play further back.

he was awful last season, especially after lockdown.

At least he has shown he can perform in the season before, which others such as Walcott and Davies never have.
