2019/20 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Sigurdsson is more of a problem than Walcott.

The entire midfield is our biggest issue, and he is a fundamental part of it. Thankfully we’re about to buy a new midfield and number 10.

yes I know midfield is the biggest concern. Thing is though, out of all the dross we have, he is at least capable of producing a bit of something from time to time, which the players I just mentioned such as Davies and Walcott aren’t,

Apparently he's asked to stay behind at his club for pre-season.

Hopefully this is a sign of commitment and he has some desire this season. I don't think anyone can deny he has talent, but my son has shown more enthusiasm cleaning his room than Gilfi shows playing football. If Carlo can get him motivated and showing effort and our midfield has two ball winners behind him he could be a huge asset.

James Rodríguez is about to dump him squarely in the bin.

Walcott occasionally offers something, where as Davies and Sigurdsson haven`t for a very long time.

Exactly. Seems like Gylfi finally realizes the heat is on.

That being said I don't think he intentionally coasts through matches, I just think he played in that free #10 role for so long that's not sure how to do anything else. That's why he's so bad in a two man MF. He's also lost a step or two, so his offensive effectiveness is down (making him a mediocre #10) and he's a liability on playing on the wings.

What I'm saying he's a decent enough professional, and probably a good guy, but he's is unable to do what we need from him. Once Hamez gets here he will be a squad player at best, and my guess is that he wants to stay here and keep himself in Carlo's good graces.

...which was exactly my reaction to the amount of effort we put into chasing his signature in the first place.

Not really had any cause to revise that opinion since.

Even I didn’t anticipate how bad this signing was going to turn out. I mean, I knew he’d never justify his price tag, but to turn out as probably the most widely disliked Everton player of all time has even took me by surprise.

Nobody can ever compare to Barmby mate.
